first night in crib

LO is one month today and since DH had to go back to work last week I have been having trouble sleeping with LO by myself, DH works the night shift. So being the night person he was, he would pretty much have her all night and I would only get up to rock her back to sleep after a feeding. She doesnt like how he rocks her. So after a week of not sleeping I decided I would try her in her crib and see how she did. She slept for 5 hours in her crib with no complaining and she fell alseep in her crib, I didnt have to rock her. Of course me being mom and all I spent the first hour sitting by her door waiting for her to cry so I could go get her. But she didnt and I was able to sleep for 4 hours until it was time for her next feeding. And then she went back to sleep and I was able to sleep another 4 hours without having to get up to check on her or put her paci back in her mouth. It was a nice night. I hope we can do it again tonight.

Re: first night in crib

  • Yeah, I went through my first night last night too. It was definitely harder on me than her. I missed her snuggling next to me!

  • We put DS in his crib two nights ago, and last night... it's going really well so far.  He's sleeping much better.  Of course, like you, it's MUCH harder on me then on him.  I mean, his room is kitty corner to our room and we have the monitor on - but I'm still a nervous wreck with him in there instead of in the co-sleeper next to me.  But, I definitely think he sleeps much better in the crib.  He's three weeks old, and I was hoping to wait until at least six weeks, but the co-sleeper we have got recalled and DH hated it anyway (and was convinced DS hated it since he didn't really sleep well in there).  I think the crib was the best option at this point.

  • We put E in the crib on her fourth night home. With her in the PNP in our room, no one was getting sleep. My dad actually suggested we put her in the crib and low and behold she slept so much better in there. Probably because I wasn't jumping up everytime she made a sound.

We've actually learned that E is a pretty noisy sleeper. So, in the morning when she makes her little grunt/fuss noises, I've learned to just let her be.

  • I think Ben is ready for the crib.... but I don't think I am ready to have to go down the hall to feed him at 2am...

The one and only night I let him fall asleep in the crib, I stayed up way later than I should thinking he was going to wake up as soon as I feel asleep, and then I ended up bringing him back into the bedroom before I went to sleep so that I didn't have to worry about the monitor waking me up.

Pitiful. I was hoping for him to drop down to 1 night feeding before I move him down the hall. Right now we are down to 2:30am and 5:30am... It would be great to drop the 2am feed and move him to the crib for a good 9 hour stretch each night.
