Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

if your child's hair is coming in mullet style

When did you cut it?  Who cut it?

I think it's finally time to trim the wild hair around the base of DS's skull.  He still has hardly any hair on top.  I'm thinking about attempting to cut it myself since he doesn't need a full hair cut.  Has anyone done this, or did you go to a professional to de-mullet-ify your child?

Re: if your child's hair is coming in mullet style

  • My SIL is a stylist so when we saw her a month ago she cleaned up his mullet. It was getting redic! lol And now he is close to needing another trim! His hair grows so fast!

  • Hurry! Hurry! Cut it fast before he ends up singing about his Achy Breaky Heart. :P

j/k. I just had this image of a mullet haired baby in tight jeans belting it out and couldn't help myself.

  • We took DS to one of those kids' salons.  The guy who cut it referred to his mullet as a skullet because there's no hair on top, so it's skull on top and it's a party in the back.  Poor kiddo!  We now take him to Supercuts and they do the best job.

  • Zack had a crazy mullet going on until I trimmed it around 15 months. It really just needed evening up more than anything else and took like two minutes. I would have felt stupid paying someone else to do that cutting. :-)

  • we're just letting it grow. the top is finally catching up and since his hair is really curly it's not like it's hanging over his shoulders. He looks like a munchkin from Wizard of oz, but it's cute!
  • I trimmed DS's while he was either in the bath or just out, can't remember, at 13 months. Just along the back of his neck. Now I have to take him in to get a trim all around.
  • The day I took my sig pic, I chopped the back of her hair off myself.  Her mullet went down a couple inches past her shoulders (when wet) in the back and just a few inches long on the sides.  I just cut it into a little bob in the back and left the sides alone.

ETA:  She was about 16 months in that pic.

  • Grant's mullet isn't too awful bad so I'm going to wait it out and see how it goes. I really don't want to cut his hair because I think it would be so cute with some length, but if it grows in funny I will get it shaped up.
