Who has a late walker?

Just curious at what month it started? Did you ever receive any PT? LO has a delay with gross motor movements so think we will be receiving some PT from Early Intervention and maybe privately as well. We are 13 months and just starting to pull up and place weight on our feet. :( Other than the gross motor, all is well!

    Our friends son is a late walker, they got him into pt at 19 months. He has something wrong with his core that they have to work on. He's doing very well with it though! He can walk holding onto things now, it's been a month since they started therapy with him.

    I suppose that depends on how you define "late". Our son is 14+ months and isn't walking independently yet. He's been walking holding onto just one of our fingers for over 2 months now, so I'm sure it's just a confidence/balance issue and not a PT issue. If he weren't showing progress and skills I might start to be worried but he's making progress. I wouldn't worry yet and ask at your 15 month well child visit.

    My advice to you is if you think your LO needs Early Intervention, get the process started right away.  My DD has motor skill delays due to some nerve damage in her left arm.  We started the EI process at 9 months old and she has still not had any PT sessions.  The approval process takes forever!!  Good news is the therapist said during her evaluation that she believes DD will be back on track in 6 months!  Right now she is not crawling, pulling up or walking so that was really good news.  Good luck!

    My guy started at almost 19 months.  He had no PT. The pedi was not concerned.

    DD didn't start walking until 14 months.  13 months is not near late for walking, the normal range for walking is 9-18 months so don't be alarmed.

    Have you contacted your EI office again?  I thought by law things had to start within 45-days of contact?  Maybe that is just the initial evaluation has to be done within 45-days.

    To the OP: DS2 (18mos) is a late walker (as in does not yet walk) but he has CP.  He gets PT amongst some other therapies for his disability.

    Yep-ours has to be decided within 45 days of the referral. So by May 15th we will know for sure. Our private PT eval showed 42% delay, which is equivalent to 7m old.

    DD started walking at 16 months. She didn't pull up until 12 months. We were not worried and did not feel that PT was needed. Once she started walking she caught on quickly and was running in no time. She just needed to build her confidence up.

     This was exactly the same for my DD. She took 3 steps at 16m, and within a week was full on running, and walking as if she had been doing it for months.
