Bed sharing mamas

I'm looking for a recommendation on a safety rail to add to my bed in place of the current "baby blockade" to make sure Charlie doesn't roll off (and to give us more room in the bed so DH can hopefully ditch the guest room permanently.)  Does anyone here who bed shares with their baby have one they like?

Re: Bed sharing mamas

  • I slept with Ben in the guest room for a while when he was 1 ish. I got a rail but I don't remember the kind. I think there're allthe same really. But I ended up feeling best just shoving the bed up to the wall. I was worried Ben would stand up next tomthe rail or try to look over it and fall. I think the rail is good for accidentally rolling but not for escaping.

  • My girlfriend took one of those pool noodles (the ones made of foam) and put it on the edge of the bed under the fitted sheet.  Again, this was just to prevent accidental rolling, but obviously not escaping.  =)

  • Hmm...I didn't think about escaping.  Obviously that's a ways off but it may be better (certainly cheaper) to just shove the bed in the corner, although that means no nightstand (not that I use it much anyways.)  Good idea with the noodle too!

  • I have been trying to decide if I want to make one of these for us...

I was thinking of buying a king sized flat sheet, sewing a portion of it over to make a pocket and sliding our body pillow in it.

Yeah, it wasn't so much that I worried he'd just run off.  More that he'd wake up, and start exploring and dive off over the rail so he'd fall from a foot higher than just falling off the bed.

Your other option is to put the mattress on the floor and put your bed frame in the garage for a while.

  • Audrey comes and climbs into our bed every night anywhere between 1 and 5am. She has done this for over a year and we just go with it since we all get sleep....anyways, she is usually on the inside, but on one of the few occasions she has been on the outside...she did fall out of our bed once one time. funny thing, she rolled off right where the Costco dog bed is on the floor..and onto the dog! At least she got a cushy landing! Lol. Poor dog got a rude awakening though. Then she didn't want back in bed, she wanted to cuddle up with the dog, but our Border Collie would have nothing to do with that at 3am!

  • Lurker here :)

I use this one from amazon - it fits our king size bed well and relieves my worries about rolling away!
