XP: BF Momas: Please help -- sudden decrease in supply

Hi Ladies...

I used to have very engorged breasts, an issue with too fast a supply and too much milk. As of 24 - 36 hrs. ago, my breasts feel empty and smaller and feel like there's hardly any milk. My LO's diaper's DO look different and not as poopy as usual and he takes a 3 hour nap every afternoon..and today is the first day he woke because he is hungry.

Please...any words of advice, suggestions, insight, etc.?

Make sure you are eating enough and drinking enough liquids. Here is a link to a lactation cookie that was highly recommended. I myself have not made them or used them yet, but I hear they are really delicious and help. It beats drinking Mother's Milk Tea (I heard that stuff is gross).

My lactation consultant said that at some point my breast will feel soft like they are empty. She said not to worry that they are not empty. Also that at some point poopy diapers will start to become farther apart because the babies body becomes efficient in using everything in the breast milk so go on how many wet diapers. Some babies will go days with out a poopy diaper when they are breastfed. As for him waking up hungry is it possible that he is going through a growth spurt?

This is exactly what the lactation consultant I saw said to me. If you are really concerned about it, maybe you can go see an LC. They will weigh your LO before and after eating, and then you can see how much he's ingesting. That may help you not worry.

I agree with PP, but you can...

Pump some more-like right after LO eats.

Drink a crap ton more water

Eat oatmeal

Buy some Fenugreek

Get Mother's Milk Tea (if you like Black licorice, you'd probably like it, I add honey and hold my nose )

I was having the same problem, started pumping after her feedings and drinking about 4 bags of Mothers Milk tea per day. Within 3 days I had a ton more milk.

The tea is kind of gross but adding honey makes it much better

I have only noticed a change in my supply when I don't drink enough water. Caffeinated beverages can also effect it.

Im sure im gonna be flammed for this but hey, it works

Drink A as in 1, uno, un, single, Beer

The yeast actually helps you produce milk too and because it's just the one your body will get rid of the alcohol pretty quick so you dont have to worrie about a drunk baby. my sister use to have to do this because the mothers milk tea didnt work for her.
