Am I being over-sensitive?

It's well known to all my friends and family that I'm going through a not-so-nice divorce (what divorce is?). So obviously it isn't a topic of conversation that I particularly enjoy on a regular basis...

I just got this message via FB from a high school friends mother (who I haven't talked to in years, and who didn't come to my wedding, etc.):

_____________

Hi *****!

Quick question (sorry for the subject matter though!). Were you pleased with the photographer for your wedding? I met a young man at the hospital (yep, always helping others!) and he may have lost his photographer, so I thought I'd ask you.

Thanks!______________ Am I being over-sensitive to think that this is VERY insensitive? Considering I NEVER talk to her... I mean sh*t, wedding photographers are a dime-a-dozen....GOOGLE IT.  And I'm sorry, I don't consider it "always helping others" when it's at the expense of somebody's feelings... Would you respond? If so, what would you say? Thanks ladies...

Re: Am I being over-sensitive?

  • That would annoy me. I'd probably answer nicely anyway, but I'd be peeved. It's one thing if it was her daughter's wedding or something,  but some random guy she just met? Obnoxious.

  • I would probably say something like "Oh, I used this photographer (insert name here) but I'm not sure how great he/she was since their camera put a divorce hex over our marriage.  good luck with your planning!"

    This made me giggle. ^_^

  • Being the heartless turd that I am, I would say oversensitive.  It wouldn't have bothered me and I guess I don't really understand what the big deal is.
  • Does she know you're divorcing? Is there a reason your wedding pics would stand out to her? Were they unique? Published? The style her friend is looking for? Or, were you just the only married person she knew?Edit: whoop. Just reread your OP and the answer to Q#1 was right there in your first sentence. Sorry.

  • I guess I just don't see myself going up to someone (who I rarely talk too) that's in the middle of a nasty divorce and bring up her wedding (which is obviously a sore subject) to help out some random person I just met in the hospital. She obviously knows it's a sore subject as she states that in the message....just saying, if she is acknowledging that fact, you'd think she'd think twice in sending it.

    This.

I agree with these two lovely ladies.  No offense but people shouldn't have to walk on egg shells around you just because you happen to be going through a divorce.

  • OK fair enough. So I am being over-sensitive....but I will say I still think it's tacky.
