stopped BF/pumping.. is this normal??

Hey ladies. I haven't pumped/BF since Wednesday, March 30.  DD is now 100% on soy formula, so I slowly weaned over the course of about 3-4 weeks.  My left boob is so incredibly hard and painful that I'm about to call the dr.  It started out fine, but once I hit about the 1 week mark, it became obvious that it's just filled with clogged ducts.  I've been expressing a little by hand every once in a while just for comfort, but it's not helping anything to go down.  I've had mastitis before, and I'm afraid of getting it again.  Is it normal for this to happen after you stop pumping/BFing?  Any ideas of what I can do?

Re: stopped BF/pumping.. is this normal??

  • Put cold cabbage leaves in your bra. The coldness with help with the discomfort and the cabbage leaves are supposed to help dry you up. When I weaned my first, my boobs were like this for about a week and a half. I didn't leave my house because it was too painful. Try not to let warm water from the shower hit your boobs because that will stimulate let down. Hand-express just enough for comfort. Do you have any flu-like symptoms? If you do, definitely call your doc but I think the painfulness and engorgement is normal and should start to get a little better each day.
