Trisomy Story on Oprah?

Did anyone see this when it aired? I think I am going to be ill. I hope that when my ds is born I can remember to be thankful for every minute we have even when he is screaming at 3 am. Do you know if the couple knew the baby had trisomy 18? My heart is just breaking. I do not think I could bear it.

Re: Trisomy Story on Oprah?

  • Yes, it aired on Tuesday and I cried throughout the entire thing.  The couple knew that the baby had Trisomy 18 and made the decision to celebrate every day with him because each day was a blessing.  They didn't think he would like very long post birth, but he lived for 99 days and they recorded each day by writting letters, taking pictures, etc.

It really put things in perspective for me.  I was completely sleep deprived while watching the episode and I realized immediately that the sleep deprivation is so worth it if it means I can spend time with my son.

  • I didn't see it but know about the couple to which you are refering. The story broke my heart but it has also made me so greatful that my little one is healthy. I try to remeber things like that when I have heartburn and my hips hurt.
  • Yes, I saw it, I think it aired earlier this week (I had it saved on my DVR).  The video is on youtube.  Yes, they knew the baby had trisomy 18.  I sobbed for like an hour after watching. It was so touching how they celebrated every day with their baby.  What a great reminder that every baby is truly a miraculous gift.
  • Here is the family's site about Eliot (the baby boy)....
