Anyone have twins with a toddler already?

DS will be about 2.5 y/o when these babies are born. I'm already thinking "how will i get around?"   What type of stroller? etc.

i'm thinking i'll still want DS to be in a stroller - even though he'll walk more places then- he likes his naps and relaxing - so will need to really sit and chill at times.

what are you doing/did you do?

thanks!

Re: Anyone have twins with a toddler already?

  • Me! I do not have a stroller for  three though. My 29 month old DD is very independent and hates the stroller anyway.  Sorry I can't offer more help. Also, right now w/ my twins just being born, when we go out, I have another adult w/ me.  Thus, they could push my DD's single umbrella stroller while I have the twin stroller. HTH!

  • Although I had toddler twins and a newborn I thought I'd chime in here.  I didn't go out much when Chris was born during hte winter.  I had my double stroller and a sling.  I also used (and still use sometimes) harnesses.  If I wanted the boys in the striller, I put Chris in the sling.  When spring came and we did go places, J&M didn't want to use the stroller much.  Triple strollers are expensive so I wanted to try to go without it if we could.
  • My twins were born May 30, and DS turned 3 on June 14.  I do not have a triple stroller - I opted not to get one b/c I found that once he turned 2.5 he really had zero interest in being cooped up in the stroller - he prefers to walk.  You may see a change in him in the next few months that will not warrant the need for a stroller.

That said, there is some sort of contraption that they make that attaches to the back of your stroller for a toddler to stand on while you push the stroller.  I'm sorry I don't know the name of it, but I'm sure someone on here will know......

  • Like the other posters, I only have a double. I think you'll find that triples are pretty prohibitive - cost/maneuverability/and transport in your car are all big issues.

What we do when our two year old needs a stroller is a) hope it is a day when someone else is with me :) lol or b) sling a baby and let her ride in the doulbe with a baby. It isn't perfect, but it is the easiest way I've found. LIke the others said, you may find that your toddler is more interested in walking by the time the babies arrive.

Oh, and the thing that attaches to the stroller is a ride-on board or buggy board, but they are really intended for older kids. You could check them out.
  • My DD will be 19 mos. in December when my twins are born. I contemplated the same question, and ended up going with a double stroller also - I got the Graco DuoGlider b/c it would fit most easily with snugride car seats, and seems easy to get in car & move, etc.  I decided this b/c I found that the triplet strollers were just ridicuously expensive, and I read that you had to disassemble them just to get them in your car - too much work. Plus, few were compatible with infant carseat carriers anyway, other then the triplet snap 'n go's, which doesn't help with what to do with your Toddler. Like pp,  I will either have another adult push DD in her Maclaren stroller while I have twins in duoglider, or if I had to do it alone,  I plan on putting DD and one twin in duoglider, and carring othet twin in bjorn.  Hope this helps. It's nice to know that someone else is in my same position. Please page me with any questions or if you wany to chat - it would be helpful to me too!
  • I have a triple stroller and I love that thing... I don't know what I would do without it. We have the Joovy- it has two spots for babies / toddlers to sit, and there is a spot on the back intended for the toddler to sit or stand and ride along.

We put the babies in their carriers in the stroller spots and Max sits in the back on his "big boy seat". He doesn't like to sit still for long, but it works to get us in and out of places fairly quickly.

I got it as a gift (my friends rock) so I'm not sure of the cost. It IS big, but fairly easy to maneuver. I have to take one of the bars off to load it in my minivan, but that takes literally 5 seconds to snap on and off. ?

I wasn't sure about the whole huge stroller thing, but it has been a sanity saver for me... I can't stand to be cooped up in the house all day and this allows me to take all three of them out and about. It does attract a lot of attention, so be sure to leave yourself ten extra minutes to answer questions from the gawkers. You'd get that anyways with just twins, though...?

  • My DD was 26 months when my twins arrived.  Like most of the other posts, we use a tandem double so she can ride (and one baby can be in a sling or Bjorn) or she can walk and the babies can rode in their carseats.

Having a toddler and twins is intimidating, but very do-able.  I am out and about everyday with all 3 kids by myself.  I would hughly suggest having your toddler walk with you now so it makes the transition easier later.
