Post pregnancy body - clothes

So, we're going on three months now, and I had REALLY hoped that I'd be back in my pre-pregnancy clothes, but the truth is, I'm just not. It's so frustrating! My maternity clothes are too big, my pre-pregnancy clothes are too tight and if I have to wear the bella band one more day I think I'll scream. I'm exercising, eating well etc. but the scale doesn't seem to be moving and my pre-pregnancy clothes don't seem to be fitting better. Grrr!. I hate to go buy more clothes (after all the maternity clothes.) but I feel like I don't even look professional at work right now. Maybe I should just bit the bullet, and accept that this is me, post baby. But's is so frustrating. Okay, vent over. Thanks for indulging me!

  • Hang in there!

For me, it took a few extra months. I don't know why, but after like 4 months the weight finally started coming off. Probably hormone related.

I love goodwill so I bought a few in between clothes there and didn't worry about spending a ton. I know it sounds crazy but you can really find some great stuff, even work clothes.... Just be prepared to dig.

Keep up the good work and it will happen.

  • Lauren - at three months I had only lost half of my pregnancy weight.  At 7 1/2 months I still have a little bit to go, plus my boobs are still pretty big because I'm nursing.  I've been telling myself - it took 9 months to put it on and it will take 9 months to take it off.

As for clothes, I did a little target shopping and then when I got back into my old jeans (still tight but can easily zip them and sit and walk) I went crazy at J. Crew. I probably won't go down another size at this point even if I want to lose 2-5 pounds.

  • Dont feel bad-- unfortunately its often not the weight necessarily that makes the clothes not fit its just the entire shape of our bodies change. I only gained 1lb my entire pregnancy (dont ask lol long story) so I was about 10lbs below pre-pg weight pretty quickly after my delivery and my pre-pg clothes STILL didnt fit. My hips were different and I was holding my weight more in my belly then ever before and here I am a year later, weighing the exact same amount I did pre-pg with DS and some of my old clothes just never fit again (at least not in a flattering way, I could get them all on they just looked terrible).

I suggest getting some in-between clothes, I went to TJ Maxx, Good Will and Gap Clearance Outlet to get stuff until I was certain of how my post-partum body would be-- its amazing how getting a few well fitting, flattering outfits can make you feel! GL!

This is so true.  I have so many things that while they are the correct size, they just don't fit the same after having kids.  It's really the oddest thing.

I agree with trying to find a few inexpensive filler pieces until a little more comes off, and see what happens.  i found that even some of my absolute favorite things just didn't look the same, despite fitting just fine.  Good luck  :)

  • Are you nursing?  I couldn't lose weight while I was nursing.  Some women are lucky and it falls right off, but some aren't.  I gained 35lbs while pregnant and lost the first 20 with no effort, but I still carried the other 15lbs of baby weight around with me when DD was a year old - I weighed the same as I did when she was a month old. It hung around for almost another year until I started on WW this January.  I've been slacking off the past several weeks, but I've lost over 8 lbs... I'm only a few pounds from my heaviest weight as an adult, but even still the pants size I wore then is not close to fitting right now.  I guess I'm just a different shape.

Hang in there, post partum bodies are tough to deal with.  About a month ago was when I finally decided to suck it up and buy some new clothes.  Good luck.

  • I got pregnant a year after I had DS and I was still 8 lbs away from my pp weight.  But, my clothes weren't even close to fitting.  My body was a total different shape.  Don't be to rough on yourself.  I shopped the sales rack and started to build up my "in between, or not real" closet and found that when I had clothes that fit my body I felt better about myself.

  • I am 10lbs less then my pre-pregnancy weight and some of my clothes fit, but most do not, I finally broke down and bought two pairs of new jeans the other day because I was sick of wear mat clothes... I have since packed them all up and stored them for the next time I get pg...

You are not alone my friend! Keep your chin up! Look at that beautiful baby girl you have... totally worth it all!

  • Don't scream yet! At 4 months pp, I had lost all but 5 lbs. of the weight, but my clothes weren't even close to fitting me-- I was two pant sizes up still and I had a ton of flabby skin around my belly. I caved and bought a bunch of new dress clothes for work, but by 1 year pp, I was the same weight but my body shape had come back, if that makes sense. My hips were slimmer and my belly skin was tighter, and I finally fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes. So your actual body shape may be coming back-- give it time and don't buy too many clothes. I look at the expensive Express pants I bought when I was two sizes up and they are so big on me that I can't even wear them...total waste of money!

  • At 3 months PP, I had barely lost more than when I came home from the hospital. Between 3 and 6 months is when I lost the majority. I did WW though - but I think it helped a TON! I started when DS was 3 months old. And the in between time with clothes was awful!

  • My body still isn't the same. I swear my measurements are just different now. Shoot, one of my friends still cannot fit into her shoes... 7 months later!
  • Thanks to everyone for all the support! I did breakdown Friday and buy a few things for work. I typically wear a pretty tailored look, and couldn't stand the flowy shirts anymore. It made me feel like I wasn't polished. So now I have a couple pairs of pants I can actually tuck a *** into. Lesson learned though, sounds like I need to give it some more time. :-)
