Does anyone else's 9 month old only eat purees? We are feeding DD Gerber stage 2 purees. She will also have puffs and frozen peach slices in her mesh feeder. We have tried to feed her itty pieces of "real" food (pancakes and brocolli) and each time she choked (pancakes) and then gagged (brocolli) which caused her to throw up her entire dinner. Is it necessary at this age to feed her real solids or can I stick to the purees a little longer?
She is just not having a good time with the "real" food. Also, she has no teeth yet so I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but she does "chew" with her gums.
Re: 9 months old and solids...
It is okay if puree is all she tolerates now. She is still getting most of her nutrition from formula/breastmilk. Just keep trying the solids. My DS only has 2 teeth and still eats everything under the sun now. There gums are pretty strong. I just make sure to cut everything up really small.
Maybe try to feed her bananas in small pieces, gerber makes jars of soft apples, cheerios, over cooked cauliflower (so its super soft). I would also try going up to stage 3 food. It has little chunks in it that are easy to eat.
gagging is part of learning.... she'll learn. No need to rush, but maybe try banana (softer foods) first.
I never could get CJ to eat with one of those mesh feeders. I just fed him the food directly.

I agree. My son is now 11 months old, but has been eating solids (whatever we have for our meals) since he was 9 months old. He did the gagging too. It only took a day or 2 of that, then he was fine. Now I can't get him to stop eating. Its a process, but its so much nicer feeding them what your eating instead of having to make them something seperately.
