So, I am looking for something and I'm not even sure that what I am looking for exists!
Here is my ideal stroller:
- good for the city (smooth ride on rough sidewalks, light, easy to fold up, easy to maneuver)
- can be used birth - toddler or comes with the option to attach the carseat
- under $400
Is there something like this out there or should I just accept that I will need to buy at least 2 different strollers???
I was thinking about the BJ City Mini, but was wondering if there was a better option out there....
Re: Stroller dilemma
Quinny Zapp Xtra. I have the older Quinny Zapp model, and the Xtra addresses everything I have issues with. The seat can face toward the parent or away, recline fully and it has a higher height/weight limit. It still folds up extremely small. I want to buy the Xtra seat and put it on my old Quinny frame (old frame is the same as the new frame). Still looking into that. The only downside about the Xtra is that you have to take the seat off to fold the frame now. Oh, and the Quinny strollers can only take the Maxi Cosi infant seats.
You could also look at the Phil and Ted. It's not technically a lightweight stroller, but I have no more trouble lifting it than I do my Quinny. My Zapp weighs 13 pounds, the Zapp Xtra weighs 19 pounds and the Phil and Ted weighs 21 pounds. Not too big of a difference between the Xtra and the P&T.
The Phil and Ted is better with uneven sidewalks, too, although the Quinny does a fine job. The Phil and Ted just has air tires, so it makes it a smoother ride. It folds pretty easily. I have taken it on public transportation with a lot of success, even as a double (it can be converted to a double stroller).
Quinny Zapp Xtra. $300.
Phil and Ted. Basic Sport model is $350, Explorer model is $479.
Quinny Zapp. $160.
Another option is to ignore price and just find the stroller you like and look for a lightly used one on craigslist. I live in Chicago as well, and you can sometimes find used Bugaboo strollers with accessors for under $400 under craigslist.

The City Mini also sounds like it meets your requirements.
But since you're due pretty soon you might want to consider getting a snap and go type frame for your infant seat off CL (should be really cheap), then seeing how you think you'll really use a stroller once LO is here and buying a full sized stroller then.
