Flood Ins

We just got a letter that they changed the flood zone for our house at the end of last year. Crying I have no idea how much this is going to cost us per month. Not good news.

Re: Flood Ins

  • Anyone know the cost of being in Flood Zone A? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  • I wonder if you can find this information online?

We don't have flood insurance, so I don't know anything about it.  Sorry you got unwelcome news  :(

  •  Flood insurance is actually through a national program and there is a standard rate for everyone basically.  I can't remember what the rate is- and it may have changed in the two years I have been out of insurance.  Basically if you are in a 100 year flood plain versus a 1000 year flood plain there is a different rate, but that's it.

You can't get any competitive quotes because there are none.  So call whomever you have your homeowners up and get the quote from them, but just as an FYI- it won;t help to shop around like car or home insurance.

And honestly, it's cheap.  Dirt cheap.  I can't remember what it is- but I remember being shocked at the rate.  I want to say a year policy is like $200 but I honestly don't remember...

  • I usually post on the nest Cincy board, but here is my recent info.

Our house is in a 100 year flood plain.  Another thing to note is that unless you are in what's called a preferred flood zone, the rate can be a bit steep.  We are in a 100 year plain, but not a preferred one, so our rate is a bit higher than most.  I just did some research and checking w/ my insurance company two weeks ago about this b/c they had recently changed our flood plain and we were hoping that took us out of it, but it didn't.

From what I was just told 2 weeks ago, the govt. has started expanding their flood plains b/c they are losing some govt. backing on certain programs and they keep changing things so areas that were not in a flood plain before are starting to be in one, now.  Its not so terrible; there hasn't been a flood in our area since late 1800's and I'm honestly not worried about it, either.
