I CAN NOT for the life of me figure out DD's damn feeding schedule. I'm flip/flopping every day with what I think it should be, and I keep second guessing myself.
She drinks 4 breast milk bottles a day (8 oz. each) at 7am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm (before bed).
I've started introducing oatmeal / fruit at 10am and rice cereal / vegetables at 5pm.
My question is.... how do I start moving her towards a breakfast, lunch, dinner schedule? I feel like she's eating all day - between the bottles and the solids. Should she be getting solids right before/after the bottles?
Can anyone please share their 6 month old's feeding schedules? I'm so frustrated. ![]()
Re: I consider myself a pretty bright person, but....
Thank you! This is what I was thinking as well. Would you suggest the bottle before or after the solids?
As does mine, which is why I am so desperate for advice. She's so wishy-washy, it drives me nuts!
How we do it on workdays:
6:15 nurse
8:30/9 bottle (4-5oz) then oatmeal
11 bottle (4-5 oz)
1:30/2 bottle (4-5 oz) then fruit or veggie
4:30 bottle (4-5 oz)
5:30 oatmeal and fruit/veggie & short nurse if needed
7:30 bath, nurse and bed
The solids have not kept Abby from nursing at all, but she is cranky if she has an empty stomach when we try to feed her. So she gets the bottle first.
Addison is the same way, so I'm thinking I should try to get some bottle into her first, feed some solids, and then maybe go back to the bottle.
You wouldn't think this sh*t would be so hard to figure out, huh? I'm so Type A, and I'm beginning to think more and more that I need to find a like-minded pediatrician. Someone who can literally write out for me exactly how I should be doing this (or at least what I should be aiming for, as we all know Addy runs the show
)
Thanks for your insights, ladies. Happy Friday!
I tried the bottle and a solid thing, because my pediatrician said to NOT cut out a bottle for a solid, but my little guy won't drink a bottle after a solid, or wont eat a solid after a bottle, it's just too much for him.So here is what I have come up with...
Bottle when he wakes up, between 6:30-7:30am Breakfast (oatmeal) around 10am Bottle at Noon Lunch (fruit and veggies solid) around 2pm Bottle b/w 4-5 Dinner (Meat and veggie/fruit) @ 7pm Small serving of Oatmeal 8-8:30, Goodnight bottle at 9pm (or course this schedule is flexible when considering naps)
Yes, I am feeding him every couple of hours, but it works for him and works for me. Also, I know he goes to sleep later that some of the other mothers have mentioned, but every kid is different, and he just wont go to sleep any earlier. I believe my methods will help him transition into a 3 meal a day feeding schedule, hope this helps!
This. We were also advised by our pedi to start with a little food and work her up to a full serving, and finish off with a bottle. DD will get full from the bottle otherwise and then not eat the food.
Our pediatrician said that the three meals was mostly to get them in a habit of that sort of schedule. The amount that they eat isn't that important. We saw a big change in DS's eating around 7 months and he started eating more solids at one sitting. He now chows down on 3 meals of solids (prob 4 ozs each time) plus 4 7oz bottles. I swear all he does is eat. Daycare has him on a good schedule with his eating. He generally eats solids about 1.5-2 hours after a bottle.
I think the feeding schedule is more of an art than a science. If one schedule isn't working, just try a different one. There are a lot of right ways to feed them.
I am completely confused as well and I know I need to get the third solid meal in soon but I also feel like DD is eating all day (but she does STTN so I don't want to do less).
I do bottle when she gets up - typically 6:30 a.m., then solds two hours later so 8:30, then bottle at 10:30; then bottle at 1:30; then solids at 3:30, then bottle at 5:30; then possibly another bottle at 7:30 for bed. DD's bottles are always 6 oz (FF) or less - she won't take more. I guess when I move up to three meals I will loose the 1:30 bottle and substitute solids and then possibly push the other solid to 5:30 p.m. instead of 3:30.
She may not be ready for 3 meals right now. I only started C on 2 meals a day last weekend. I'm not going to start a third meal for awhile yet. I want to make sure he gets his formula first, since that's the most important thing for him right now. He's currently taking 28 oz of formula a day with 2 meals (around 10am and around 5pm) of about half of a Stage 2 jar.
