Austin Babies

what outside toys does your LO have?

We've got a sand/water table & some water stuff for super-hot days (sprinkler & pop-up kiddie pool)...what other stuff would my almost-2-year-old like?

Unfortunately, a swing set and/or trampoline is out.  We don't have the room.  Sad

Re: what outside toys does your LO have?

  • We're going to get the boys a sandbox and tools for that.  We have a few dump trucks/bulldozers that they will push around for a nice long while.  Lawnmowers (there's a cool bubble one I bet A would like).  The wheelbarrows are awesome...  Uhh, wagons!  Target has these wagons that the boys just love to put stuff (rocks, dirt) into and pull around the yard.  Get one!

We also have a small playscape that keeps them somewhat busy.

ETA:  we also keep a few of those cheaper bouncy balls outside so the boys can kick those around or throw 'em.

Could you do a small Little Tikes slide or something like that for her? Or a toddler swing that you could hang from a tree?

Oooh.  Good idea on the slide.

    Unfortunately, DD hates swinging.

Go check out the Little Tikes site. They have  ton of outdoor play options. If she doesn't like swinging and you don't have room for a playscape or big trampoline, consider a smaller slide, a small one-person trampoline, or even one of the little outdoor playhouses.
  • we have this slide and the kids love it.  it is kind of tall though.

actually, i have one of these i'm about to get rid of.  if you come pick it up you can have it!

  • Aside from the water table, pool, and sprinkler.. Camy loves bubbles and chalk, her swing, and her little slide. Oh, and digging in the [not toy] flower bed. :/
  • We have this and it's a big hit. We also have this tricycle that DD likes. She also loves the new bubble mower she got for her b-day and she loves to push her Cozy Coupe around the yard.

ETA: She also loves brooms..as you can see by my siggy pic.

    It's teeny, really.

  • 1.  Small playscape from Lowes.  They have a set that you pick and choose what you want.  We just have the small tower and slide.  When they were smaller we had a sandbox.

    2.  kids gardening tools.  Julian has had his own raised garden since he was two.  They both dig, plant, etc. in it.

    3.  Hammock--they love sitting here

    4.  Chalk, bubbles

    5.  Puppy :)  Keeps them entertained for the longest time.

    6.   horse/tire swing that is next to the fence hanging in our only tree.

    7.  Honestly, both of my kids just play outside with a lot of imagination.  They bring little toys outside, build roads in the dirt, find rocks to play with, talk to the neighbor kids through the holes in the fence, etc.

  • Water table, pool, bubbles, 2 lawn mowers (the bubble one is his fave, even though we haven't replaced the bubbles since they ran out months ago), tricycle, wagon, toddler scooter (it has 3 wheels and a wide base - he got this when he was almost 2.5, and is just now getting the hang of it), baseball set, tree swing, the Cozy Coupe police car became an outdoor toy after christmas, when we started running out of room inside. Plus he loves playing with any type of bouncy ball, esp a tennis ball. I think that's about it. Oh and the bounce house but we're lazy and don't drag it out unless there are other kids over. Oh we also have those nylon tent/tunnel things that came with a ton of plastic balls to make a ball pit in one of them, but we store them inside and haven't brought them outside in a while.
  • Leo got a Cozy Coupe for his 1st birthday, and his obsession with it shows no signs of slowing down a year and a half later. I just had to get a second one for Charlie and it was only $20 on craigslist :)

Go ahead and take it.  My DH is out of town and would probably kill me if he came home to something random outside....especially since we haven't talked about it.  Stick out tongue

We have both of these as well. DD loves the slide thing, she plays on it all the time. we also have a cozy coupe she likes to ride down the driveway in. She'll also take her baby stroller outside and push it around.

    Sand and water table

Cheapo plastic pool - it was actually bought for our dogs first

swing and giant play house (the previous owners built this, it's pretty cool but it's huge and has termites, so that sucks)

we'll probably do sidewalk chalk this summer although i hate having chalk on my hands.

oh and DD has a broom set that she really likes like bobcatsteph's DD.

  • I'm so glad you asked this!  We need to stock up on outdoor stuff too.  Especially since I'm sure C will be playing in our backyard this summer a lot once the new baby is here.  Or we'll just be playing in your backyard ;-)

  • Bubbles and sidewalk chalk.  HEB had some $10 bubble blowers a few weeks ago so you do not have to constantly blow them. We also have some balls, a cheapy kid's wheelbarrow, water table w/sand and water toys, buckets & shovels, wagon, trike, and a big dump truck.  We also have a wooden playscape we got last year.  When Abby was about 2 years old we got this and it lasted her until last year.  She loved it. I found it on CL for $80! I resold it last year (after having it over 3 years) for the same price.  I put it on CL and sold it the same day!
  • We have a plastic house we found on CL, a sand/water table, and a children's plastic picnic table from a garage sale.  Our cozy coupe is out back too.  We have a blow-up pool from target too.

Steiner Ranch is having their community sale tomorrow, you could go around and look and see what others have to offer.
