2nd Trimester

anyone else have/had anterior placenta

Found out today (b/c I asked) at u/s that my placenta is anterior. A friend had one and said she felt very little movement, and didn't feel it until later in her pregnancy. I'm a bit bummed about that!

Anyone else have a different experience? Is there any possibility it will move? (Not sure if that's possible).

Of course I'm mostly just happy that our little girl is looking healthy (and active on the u/s), but am just curious about when to expect to feel her kicking and moving. I know it's early regardless, but when have those with anterior placentas started feeling baby move? Once you did, did you feel it less often due to the placenta? And, if applicable, how did that compare to other pregnancies?

Thanks!

Re: anyone else have/had anterior placenta

  • I started feeling her at 21 weeks and can feel her move all the time now. I'm not sure how to compare it to a posterior placenta since this is my first pregnancy. My husband can already feel her as well.

  • I have anterior placenta also. I felt some light wiggles 16-21wks that were very random.. By 22wks it was normal kicks, I guess it makes some difference but not that much really..

It can move up but it won't move to the back, if that's what you're asking? It's not going to be a huge deal.. you will be feeling the baby in no time at all, just relax and be patient.

  • This is my first pregnancy and I have an anterior placenta too.  I felt nothing at all until 20 weeks.  However, I'd felt her movements pretty much every day since then.

  • I had one with my first and I did feel movement pretty early still, but it was random and sporatic.  With this one I feel him move every day and it's much more noticeable so it's definitely different.  With DD, I think I felt her more and more after 20 weeks and even would see my belly move quite a bit, play with her feet at the top of my belly, etc.  So you'll get there, just be patient.
  • They told me I have an anterior placenta. I started feeling my little guy move at 20 weeks.  Now, I feel him all the time and very strong, too!  I've read that sometimes as your uterus grows, it'll push the placenta up back to where it should be.

  • I have had an anterior placenta with both my last and this pregnancy. With my first I didn't feel her move until 24 weeks, this time I started feeling movement around 19 weeks. Now I feel him all the time. It's just not as strong as other people mention the movements, but towards the end you will see your tummy move just like every one else does.

  • I have one too. With my first pregnancy it was posterior and I felt movement around 20 weeks. I am 18 weeks today and I feel a little movement.

If an anterior placenta is your only issue with pregnacy be happy!!

Trust me those kicks/punches will be strong before you know it!!

  • I had one last time and had no problem at all ever feeling movement.  It was probably a good thing it was anterior because I would have been in for a world of hurting if it hadn't been.
  • I do. I'm 18 weeks and have been feeling Le Petit Comte slip around like a little trout in there for the past 2 weeks or so. Every body is different--no need to resign yourself to anything!

  • I have anterior placenta, but did not with my first.  The first time I felt movement at 18 weeks, but this time around I didn't start feeling strong, consistent movement until weeks 21/22.  I felt flutters earlier, but just recently started feeling stronger movement.

  • I have an anterior placenta, but I started feeling gentle movement consistently around 18 weeks, and very defined kicks at 22 weeks. Everyone is different though, so don't be worried if your LO takes longer. She/he is moving around even if you can't feel it :)

  • I do currently.  I couldn't really discern movement until 21-22 weeks or so which bummed me out as everyone kept asking if I could and seemed like all TB ladies had been feeling it for weeks.  But now its super obvious and regular.  Don't sweat it, you already have the explanation why you haven't felt it yet so no need to worry.  You'll feel LO soon enough!

  • I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy, and although my Dr. told me that I'd be feeling movement later on I still started feeling movement around 18 weeks.  If I recall correctly, I first felt kicks around 20 weeks, and actually saw the kicks around 21/22 weeks.

  • I have an anterior placenta and am about 90% sure (it's my first baby) I've been feeling kicks for the last week and a half.  Feels like popcorn popping, usually after I have something sweet.  For about two weeks before I started feeling the popcorn kicks, I had the sensation like a golfball was rolling in place every few days at night when I would lay down.
