Davinci vs. Graco Cribs...

Hey ladies I need your help!

In my efforts to save money I found a crib that I like made by Graco. It's a 4-in-1 which is what we're looking for. It is about $150 at places like Target and $200 at BRU. I also like a few Davinci cribs that I've seen which cost about $100 more... does anyone have either of these types of cribs? What do you like or dislike most? Tell me about the quality...husband and I are afraid to go for the cheaper one and risk quality...

Thanks!

Re: Davinci vs. Graco Cribs...

  • I'm not fully experienced with this kind of thing, but we just bought & put together the graco Lauren 4 in 1 crib. It is really nice & not too hard to put together (took me & husband about 30min-1hr total). It seems to be really sturdy & good quality. So we're pleased with it. Walmart runs a special on it periodically where you can get it for about $150 & get a Safety 1st mattress for free. That's what we got (Gift from my mom) and I liked that the mattress has a super-snug fit, so no little hands going in cracks, etc. Hope this helps!

  • We have the Davinci Emily for DS and we will be getting the same crib for this baby.  The only negative thing about the crib is that the wood is fairly soft.  I had to get protectors for the top of the sides of the crib because DS was chewing on it and the wood started to shred a bit.  There are a few dents/scrapes here and there from me accidentally hitting it with things, etc, but otherwise I really like the crib (obviously since we're getting another!).

We also have the matching changing table and dresser and those are both holding up really well too.

  • Baby Bargins ranks Graco (made by LaJobi) cribs as a great value and they highly recommend them even though they are made of pine (soft woods chip easier etc). They call the quality "excellent" and give them an A rating.

Da Vinci (made by Million Dollar Baby) doesn't seem much different (pine), except more expensive and they received a B rating (questionable customer service) from Baby Bargains.

Personally, I went with the Graco Lauren because I liked it, and liked how it was "cheap" considering I only plan on having one child and don't need an heirloom crib.

I'm also petite (5'2) and the Graco was among the shorter cribs which was a major selling point.

All cribs must adhere to the same standards, so the $1200 crib is the same as the $120 crib minus aesthetics.

    HTH!

  • I read something recently that rated the Graco Lauren as the best buy for your money.  DaVinci wasn't on the list (that I recall).

  • We have a Graco and have been very happy. If you're planning to use it as a full bed later on, you should know that most kids will chew the rails, so make sure you either put up guards well in advance of standing/teething or realize you'll have to be OK with teeth marks on the headboard and footboard. Or, spend more $$ and get one that won't chip. We aren't planning to use it as a full bed, so it didn't really matter to us if it gets banged up a bit.

  • We purchased the Davinci Emily 4 in 1 crib, but from another online store for my DS. 2 years later it's still great. Of course there are teeth marks from my son teething on the sides, but it still looks brand new. We plan on using the same crib for our LO on the way. I love the style of it and the durablility. The only thing I hate about it is putting it together. Other than that I'd reccomend it to you.
  • We have the Graco Lauren. We've been using it for about 8 months now and I LOVE it. As a PP said, it's on the shorter side for cribs, which makes it so much easier to put DD in and out as opposed to the taller crib at my parents house. DD has done a small amount of damage to the rails by chewing, but we never intended for it to last more than 2-3 kids so I don't really care if there are marks on it. It was easy to put together, easy to drop the mattress when DD started standing, and it's very sturdy.
