Have you gone to a restaurant with LO?

We haven't taken LO out of the house yet except to go to the pediatrician, but I thought it might be nice for us to eat out this weekend.  The doctor said it's fine to take her out as long as strange people aren't touching her of course, and there's a restaurant about 5 minutes from our house that's kind of loud, so I don't think she'd really disturb people if she starts crying.  WDYT?  Have you gone out to eat yet?  Any tips?

  • Good question! If you feel the need to get out, I think it's worth a shot. You can always get the food to go if LO starts crying. We're actually trying it for the first time tonight (DS is 1 month) because it's a special occasion. We're going at 6:00 - going to try to fill him up with milk before we go. If he's upset, we'll just get the food to go. :) Wish us luck!

  • We took DD out to eat the day after we got home from the hospital...I didn't want to cook and was sick of fast food from being in the hospital (would you believe nobody helped us cook dinner?), so we took her out. We've been going out at least once a week with her since then. I just keep her in her carseat and stick the whole thing on the inside of the booth to prevent strangers from touching her.

  • My pediatrician must be super conservative b/c he said we should wait until 2 months!! to take him out to places like malls and restaurants.

  • We've taken her out twice and it was great.  She even liked being in a noisy restaurant.  Our pedi also said we can take her anywhere we want as long as no one touches her.  She also said to take her in the carseat or stroller and cover it with a blanket if we are around anyone who appears to be sick or is coughing.

  • We took DD out the week we came home with no problems.  Just kept her in her carseat and put her in the booth.  We also kept the paci at hand in case we needed it but she did great!  We've been going everywhere since then.

  • We just did the for the first time last night (It was my birthday! Smile ) DD slept the entire time in her car seat- she was such a doll! The owner of the restaurant turned a high chair over and the car seat practically clipped right in-it was great! I knew it wouldn't be crowded (it's a smaller place and it was a Wednesday night). I'm not comfortable with her being in large crowds just yet, but this was perfect.

  • I had DS on a Tuesday, and we went out that weekend. I've taken him out to eat and to the mall and everywhere since then. I've got too much to do to just sit at home, and I get stir crazy when I have the time to. DS is fine. He hasn't had any problems besides allergies, and he would still have those problems if he was at home. Go out and have a good time!

  • We've left the house every single day since LO was home.  We've been out to eat a couple times.  I just make sure to feed her right before we leave the house and she just sleeps in her carseat the whole time.

  • We've taken out the LO to eat a few times already. I usually make sure he's nice and fed before we leave. He usually falls sleep during the drive and then stays asleep at the restaurant. We stick the carseat in the booth though some restaurants have stands made just for carseats which are nice. I made a canopy for the carseat so sometimes we put that over it so it's nice and dark for him.

The one time he did cry, DH took him to change his diaper and walk around outside away from patrons. I did nurse him in a restaurant, but it was in a wrap and I was facing a wall.

  • We have gone several times since LO was born.  I put the carseat in the booth next to me or on a chair next to me and cover it if he is asleep.  If he starts to cry, I just pick him up out of the carseat.  I can eat with one hand and hold him with the other.  I have also nursed in a restaurant with a blanket covering him.  Babies cry.  If he was crying and wouldn't stop, then I would get up and take him to the bathroom or outside weather permitting to calm him down.

  • i ve gone out couple of times, but we always time it to leave right after LO eats - that way she is content and hopefully sleeps the whole time. So far she got fussy one time, and i picked her up from the carseat and rocked her not to make a scene. It worked.

This. We've left the house everyday, either for a walk or an errand. I took her out to lunch yesterday and fed her right before we left. The lunch ended up being LONG, so I had to feed her at the restaurant, but she was a champ. She just napped, fed, burped, napped. Like she does at home. No one tried to touch her.

  • We went when she was a week old. Like PP, feed her before we left and left her in the car seat and she slept the whole time. We go out to eat at least once a week.

  • GO!!  Good Lord, you need to get out of the house for your own mental health!!

With DD I didn't go anywhere but to my parents houses...

But this time around I am not anywhere near as scared as I was before!!  I take DS out quite a bit, but with a 4 year old I pretty much don't have a choice!  Between taking Sissy to school, going to the grocery store, and trips to Target for all the little things we need, we are out almost daily!  (plus I had to go back to school Crying so I have to take him to Nana's on those days)

I always try to get him to nurse really well before we leave the house and sometimes I take a bottle of pumped BM with us in a lil cooler for just in case he gets out of control!   I bought a cover for the carseat from Target...
