Non-stop congestion?

So Charlotte has had some kind of congestion since about two weeks into daycare (about a month now I guess?). I kind of assumed this was just "breaking" her into daycare and germs, etc. Well tonight it seems like its worse. A.) there is actually snot dripping out of her nose vs. just inside it. B.) she's coughing a bit, like it's draining down her nose and she's kind of choking. C.) She loves her paci and she could barely suck on it tonight because she couldn't breath well.

Anywho, I just put her down for a bit of a snooze and she's breathing fine, sucking her paci w/o coughing.

1) What gives? How can she be perfectly fine sleeping, but all messed up sitting up/playing etc.

2.) Is there anything (other than the aspirator) I should be doing for her?

Sounds like the cold you suspected is finally rearing its ugly head.  Maybe allergies, but seasonal allergies are very uncommon before 2 years old.

Humidifier.  Ocean nasal spray.  Lots of hugs and love.  Good luck and I hope she feels better soon.

  • L has had nonstop congestion since he was 2 weeks old, it plain sucks. He did end up with a cold at 2 1/2 months old (H shared it with him) and that was downright miserable. He is still getting over it. It does sound like she is getting a full on cold since you are saying her nose is running. Keep an eye on it. L's started out the same way and then it became worse and he ended up on amoxicillin to get rid of the infection. It worked, but he still has a ton of loose junk in his chest so I will be making a call to the dr tomorrow. Definitely use a humidifier (cool mist) and nasal spray. I hope she feels better soon! It's hard to see them sick, especially this small!

  • Definitely invest in a cool mist humidifier. Ours is a froggie and we get a ton of use out of it. We also use the Little Noses saline spray and the aspirator. If she seems to have any trouble breathing or choking, I would call pedi. Better to "waste" an appt on a cold than have her literally choke on it. That would be super scary.
