Ok...help me...colic?

My son seems to cry and scream almost all the time.....It is really getting to me. He hardly seems content.. He is on prilosec, and that seems to help. Its just so upsetting to me that no matter what I do, he still cries. He is 8 weeks, and i thought it was supposed to get better??

  • That sounds just like my baby, who is  6 1/2 weeks old. I'm still waiting for it to get better too.

  • Same here. LO doesn't cry constantly, but she does cry incessantly at times. (if that makes sense... watching Fraggle Rock right now.) The only thing that helps us is putting her on my lap on her belly, and patting her butt.

  • DS started screaming all throughout the day randomly and then continuously throughout the night right around 3 weeks. I was going crazy and couldn't emotionally take it anymore. It was also in the midst of us trying to figure out his formula, soy made it sooo much worse but once we put him on Nutrimagen it stopped. I think the other formulas  were too hard on his tummy.

He still has his nights but nothing like the inconsolable crying it was before.

  • Colic is usually when he cries at the same time every day (like for a few hours in the evening or something). What you're describing sounds more like what we went though, he would cry pretty much all the time. We ended up changing his formula to Nutramigen too and it has helped SO MUCH. He's still pretty sensitive but it's really saved us. Talk to your pedi, DS might have some allergies.

  • I know what you mean, we have had the same issues. We switched to Gentlease and it helped. We also changed bottles three times, we are now on the Platex Drop-ins so I can get all the air out. That has made a big difference during the day. DS still crying from about 5-9 almost every night, off and on. We have really got use to it and dont make plans at night anymore. He was screaming all morning too, but now seems to be getting out of that phase. My Pedi says it will be better with time. Hang in there!

  • I'd speak to your pedi.  It might be the formula, it might be gas.  You might want to try giving him some mylicon drops, you can do that with every feeding.  We just added gripe water, 4x a day, on Monday night and it's made a huge difference for my LO.  If it's the formula, ask your pedi to make a recommendation, they can run a test to see what LO might be allergic to.  You can also confirm that LO is on the right reflux meds, some babies respond better to one Rx over another.

Hopefully you can find something that helps, but they do eventually grow out of it so no matter what, there is an end in sight.  Hang in there, you are definitely not alone.

  • It's really tough isn't it? My LO turned 6 weeks today and seems like she is collicky at about 4 p.m. until we get her to bed. She's been going to sleep at 8 p.m. and before that we would have her down at 9 p.m. But I felt like she was really over tired, so I pushed her bath back a half hour. Now today she has taken naps all day so we didn't have her too fussy in the a.m. but lately she's been really fussy in the a.m. and then really bad at that afternoon time. I was crying alot, I feel your pain, it's so tough sometimes!
