Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Naps for a 10 month old?

I'm doubting that T gets enough sleep during the day. He seems exhausted after daycare and is in bed by 6:30. He takes a 2-3 hour nap at daycare, but when he's home with me he takes at least two 2 hour naps. I'm not sure if I need to start getting him down to one nap, or if I should ask them to have him lay down in the morning like he does when he's home with me (typically both weekend days and one to two days during the week).

  • How much sleep does he get at night? Two 2-hour naps isn't too much for many 10 month olds, especially if they only sleep 10-11 hours at night.  If he seems overly tired when he comes home from daycare with just one nap, it would be worth it to ask them to put him down for two, like you do at home.

  • DD currently takes 2 naps but I am thinking of transitioning her to one because she fights one or the other of them really hard and I just can't be in there with her with dS to tend to as well 9-ish for 2 hours 1-ish for anywhere from 30-90 minutes Asleep for the night at 6:30. 12 hours straight through
  • My 10 month old takes 2 naps at daycare, at 10 and 2... each one is about 1-1.5 hours long.

  • My LO doesn't sleep as much at daycare as he does with me at home.  There is just too much going on.

On weekends he sleeps 2, 2 hour naps.

During the week at daycare he sleeps 1-2 naps, 1-1 1/2 hours a piece.

  • my LO is also still on 2 naps, although she now seems to only get about 2-2.5 hours total instead of 3.  and today she didn't take an afternoon nap at all, the little stinker.  i'm hoping she's not going to go down to one nap for a while yet.

if your LO is sleeping that much at home with you i would ask them to put him down for 2 naps at daycare for sure.  how long is he awake between naps?  my LO can only make it about 3 hours before total meltdown (unless we're out in public...then she's an angel).  i should think he would need to the 2 naps just to break up his awake time into more manageable bits of time.  but who knows....all babies are different.  obviously.
