::Poll for sodelish::

Do you have an age at which you would hope your LO would...

have settled in to their career?

Get married?

Have children of his or her own?

What do you base this on?  Or do you think it's pointless or wrong to have expectations like this.

  • Nope. I don't want to pressure my kids and make them feel rushed to make important choices.

  • I can honestly say I have not at all thought that far ahead. Doesn't mean I won't one day but it's not even on my radar right now.

  • No deadlines/target dates. I really don't want to pressure him into anything.

    To be honest, though, if we only have 1, I really hope to have an opportunity to cuddle and play with grandchildren. I have a feeling I'll still have some cuddles left in me when DS outgrows them.

    Why have I never noticed how cute your son is before? Adorable.

    The only thing I'm hoping is that he'll be out of the house before he's 25. He doesn't have to have a career, but I want him to be responsible enough to hold down a job and make enough money to support himself by then.

    have settled in to their career? 25-30, after graduating college, I want him to find something that makes him happy.

    Get married? Never, I don't want to be the BSC MIL... (j/k, kinda)

    Have children of his or her own? Call me a hypocrite (I just turned 24), I think 30 is good.

    What do you base this on?  Or do you think it's pointless or wrong to have expectations like this. This is just based on what I think (today) that I want for him, lord knows it will probably change a million times. I know that in the real world these things are bound to change and all I can really hope for is for him to be a happy, successful, polite, well-rounded man that I will be proud of. I hope that he will make someone a wonderful husband someday and that he will be incredible father (should he choose to do so).

    have settled in to their career? I would love to say no, but I also don't want her to be in her late 20's or older and living in my house without a career. So, I hope by mid-20's she'll be at least beginning to find some success in her career or at least have a stable job (not at a strip club).

    Get married? I think everyone is different and are prepared for marriage at different ages. I will encourage her to pursue some of her personal goals before settling down.

    Have children of his or her own? Once again, will encourage to pursue her own goals and have her sh*t together financially before getting knocked up.

    What do you base this on?  Or do you think it's pointless or wrong to have expectations like this.  My goal is to raise a child who is a well functioning and happy adult who makes responsible decisions. So, hopefully she will make good, fiscally and emotionally responsible decisions that she'll be happy with in the long term. Either way, we'll support her emotionally in whatever route she takes.
