I just want to give a plug for ergo carriers. I?ll admit, I didn?t use mine much in the first year and relied more on the infant seat and stroller but that has all changed. My building is being renovated and as a result I?ll be walking up and down 6 flights of stairs with my 1 y o son in tow. There is no way I could do this without my ergo. Given that the repair will take 6+weeks, I am finally getting every penny?s worth of the investment in the carrier. So far this is day 2 and I don?t feel the weight of my son or any back pain or discomfort when carrying him. I am happy with my ergo. From what I understand the becco and Mei tei work just as well so this is my plug for this style of ergonomic carrier.
Re: Love my Ergo!
I got my money's worth from mine just by toting my big kids to the beach the last few summers. We always stay either on the beach or within a block but when you have to carry a small child + all kinds of beach stuff it really helps to be hands-free. If I didn't use it at all the rest of the year it would still be worth it to me! :-)
I've never loved my ergo for a newborn but I just got the new insert and I LOVE it. I've seen a lot of reviews from people who weren't crazy about it or who didn't use it but I think it's great. Much has been improved from the original insert (I have that too and wasn't crazy about it).
I'm glad your Ergo working out...
I read in your comment about how you relied on stroller/infant seat.. which is the case with me....
I just bought the Ergo.. even went organic for extra comfort after reading several reviews... I was very excited to finally have it.. and have been trying it out on our spring break trip this week....
My daughter is about 18lbs... almost 5 mo. old... she doesn't particularly like the feeling of the Ergo... and I have to say... it's kind of warm too. Also, I feel the weight a bit... it's not as comfortable (for me )as everyone is saying.... so am I doing something wrong?? I am on the petite side.. 5'1" ..
I feel like I'm the one of few that are having problems with the Ergo...
So I'm now wondering if maybe a smaller sized carrier (like the Beco Gemini) would be a better fit for me... I really want to make sure my money is well spent...and that it's a good fit... any thoughts from others would be appreciated too.
Hmm... I don't know that you are necessarily doing something wrong. I just adjust as the manual and you tub videos indicate and no problems. But you are right, there are others similar styles on the markt and maybe you could get something that suits your frame (I am tall and fuller figured so the ergo sport is perfect for me). I know the ergos have great resale value so you could always do craigslist if you end up with something else.
I've felt the fabric of the original Ergo and I hate the fabric. We have the sport and it's nice and soft. We wore DD w/ the infant insert for the first 4 months of her life - many naps happened in there!
We just got back to using it and love love love it!
