Trying to Get Pregnant

TTGP and Weight

So, my mom always seems to accidentally say things in a very untactful manner...and if she says one more time "Well...if you get that weight off you'll probably have a better chance of getting pregnant" I might pull my hair out!  Yes...I'm a tad overweight but I'm also a Zumba Instructor and teach a few other different group fitness classes so I'm in relatively good shape and losing pounds and inches slowly as a result of the working out and my eating habits.  OY!  I suppose I will mention it to my ob/gyn when I go for my yearly appointment next month if I don't have a BFP.  I just get so frustrated hearing her say it over and over.

Re: TTGP and Weight

  • I feel your pain - my husband keeps telling me that... not in a mean way, but because I told him to help hold me accountable to start working out more and eating better.  He has turned into the food and gym police at my home... and tends to have the worst timing when he brings it up.  So frustrating!!  GL - you know where you are at, and that you are doing the best you can.

  • I totally understand.  My mom has said that to me a few times.  Like I don't know and you always telling me isn't helping.  Another reason I'm not telling her were TTC.  I plan on talking about this with my dr at my next appt in a few weeks.

  • That sucks! If your sig is any indication, you do NOT look big to me at all. And if you're taking care of yourself, just ignore it! Or, try to look at it as "well, mom really wants a grandkid. She's being insensitive, but at least she supports our TTC efforts."

     That's exactly what I'm thinking!

Just focus on being healthy and by eating right and working out you're already doing just that! Keep on keepin on.

  • I'd say if you're exercising and eating right then your chances are just as good as anyone else... including someone who is really thin and eats like crap. You can be in great health and have a few extra pounds at the same time.

    THIS! You are gorgeous!

  • Sometimes parents are so blunt, huh?! Maybe you could kindly ask her to stop pointing it out, and that you are exercising and losing weight. I decided at the end of January to try Nutrisystem. My Mom and sister lost 40 lbs on it. I was the heaviest I have ever been and I wasn't pregnant yet. I am so glad I did it. With my new love of mountain biking, I am down 21 lbs.

    Good luck!! :)

I HATE that! I stopped asked my husband to help out with any workout or diet for the same reason!!

  • My OB did tell me that working out/exercising/losing weight will help your chances of TTC if you are overweight.  However, you are already working out and exercising so just keep up the good work!

  • I totally get this too! I have been slowly loosing weight and working out/eating healthy but it just comes off me slower than others. My mom has all good intentions but it's still like jeez there is only so much you can do! :) but keep up what your doing! You look great and I'm sure your healthy and that BFP is right around the corner :)

  • They do say weight has something to do with it, sometimes. But as someone else said if your siggy pic is any indication you don't look big at all! Also, I would think(though I'm no doctor) that being healthy and active is more important than a # on a scale and you're clearly very active!

  • My doctor told me if I lost about 30lbs he thinks my chances will improve greatly when TTC. He said that doesn't mean I *need* to lose it to conceive, just that it will help. I know I need to lose it just to be healthier, but it's hard.

As for blunt parents, my mom is like that 24/7 and it's definitely not an accident lol. I'm used to it, but that's part of the reason we're not telling her our TTC plans.

  • You are beautiful and do not look big at all!  Personally, I would rather be in shape and a little "thicker" than skinny and not in shape at all.  Those muscles will help with pregnancy!

Hugs to you for your mom saying these things.  My stepmom says stuff like this all.the.time and it made me feel awful.  When I ended up losing weight, she made bad comments about that, so NOTHING made her happy.

My ob/gyn said I'm fine and I'm a size 16 right now.  I'd love to lose weight but I'm more concerned about being in shape over the number on the scale.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.
