Babies: 3 - 6 Months

5.5 month old not rolling over

Are any of your 5-6 month old babies not rolling over?  I know all babies hit milestones at different times.  I'm not worried but I am :)  I roll him around on the floor when we play and he enjoys it but he doesn't seem to be in any rush to do it on his own.

Re: 5.5 month old not rolling over

  • My DD doesn't roll over at all... she does roll side to side, but doesn't ever try to flip over.  However, she is sitting on her own, which doesn't usually happen until later, I think.  She's a bit backwards :-)  I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  • I would ask the Pedi on your next visit. He may just not have figured it out yet.

  • A occassionally rolls belly to back but its not like he does it all the time and he's never rolled back to belly. I think its a little wierd but I'm not stressed. He pushes up well on hs tummy, is starting to try to scoot, can sit unassisted for short periods, loves to stand with help...

As you said, all babies are different in terms of when they hit milestones. Some even "skip." For instance, my niece never really got the hang of crawling but she started walking at 8 mos.

  • I'm pretty sure DS CAN roll over--he was rolling back to side at 3 months, and now when I start to roll him to his side a lot of the time he'll continue--but just doesn't seem too interested. It probably doesn't help that I suck at getting his tummy time in. Sitting is MUCH more interesting to him, so I think he's just decided to skip rolling for now.

He's growing up, but he'll always be my baby!

  • DS doesn't either. He sits up on his own (still toppels over sometimes) and he rolled 1 time belly to back 2 weeks ago. But that's it. He's not interested in it at all. My pedi said he's fine. He's strong, holds himself up, so he's not concerned.
  • DS has been fighting to roll over. he kicks his feet when on his tummy but his arm keeps gettign in the way. If I try to help him he stops trying. But he does roll from his back to his tummy every once in a great while. He is not however sitting up on his own but he will stay seated in his bumbo or on the couch.

  • DD refuses to roll over on her own.  She sits fine in her Bumbo, and will roll with assistance.  She also hates being on her tummy for too long.  She loves to stand with our help, so I guess she's a bit confused!  I do worry about her lack of "rolling development", so I'm going to talk to her ped at her next appt...

  • Same. He rolled belly to back like 3 times when he was about 12 weeks old, but hasn't done it since.

I asked about it at his 4 month appt, and the ped said it's not a huge concern, but to mention it at his 6 month if he hasn't rolled again.
