I was afraid I'd forget this if I didn't type it up right away.
I woke up Tuesday at 1:30am with strong contractions 7 minutes apart, when they got to 6 minutes apart we called the on-call doctor who said to go in now since I was trying for a VBAC. I was still only 1cm dilated, but he wanted to admit me anyway since I was a week past my due date. We got all set up in a room and I started walking laps to get things moving, but after 4 hours of this and no change the new on-call doctor sent me home.
All that day the contractions got stronger and more painful, mostly in my back. I was going to try to make it until my Doctor office opened the next morning to go get checked, but at 2:45am I decided I couldn't do it another 6 hours until they opened so I called and went back in to L&D... still only 1 cm. I couldn't help but cry. They said the baby was posterior so that explained the back pain. I took them up on getting a dose of Morphine so I could sleep a bit and hope that I woke having progressed, it worked! I slept for 4 hours and woke up 5cm!
When I got to 6cm I got the epidural and at 7cm they started Pitocin since my contractions were spacing apart to 8 minutes. We finally made it to 10cm at 8pm and started pushing around 8:30pm. Natalie Iris was born on 4/7/11 at 12:09am, 9lbs 9oz, 22 inches long. It was definitely the most painful and rewarding experience of my life. I'm glad I went for the VBAC. Recovery is ok, I had a 3rd degree tear so there are plenty of stitches. So thankful for the dermoplast and ice packs! Good luck with your deliveries ladies!
