My kid just got rejected from the Big Sibling class

It's for 3 to 8 year olds and apparently they strictly enforce the age range. There are no classes for younger kids at the hospital. We live in a pretty small city and it's the only hospital nearby. I could see if another hospital in the region has a class but it would be really inconvenient.

I think she would have really enjoyed and benefitted from the class.

I assume you already tried to talk to a manager or something? It's not like she's THAT much younger than the other kids in the class...

that is hard....but maybe you will be best at trying to explain to her. I think my 19 month old has an idea something is changing.....but no clue there will be another family member taking up our attention.

That does seem stupid though. Why do they have the age range? Its kind of like saying, "well you shouldn't have another kid if your child is less than three." Is she not a big sister just because she's under three? Lame.

Rightfully so! I would be too. Like pp said, is there some kind of appeal(for lack of better word) process?

That sucks! I personally think that under 3 they NEED a class about being a big sibling. It's easier to explain it to an older child.

If you're in a small city, is the class even full? I mean, really, she's 3 This year, you'd think they could make an exception, and if the class is Not filled, squeeze her in.

Sad This was us too! DS is a little younger than your DD though {26 mos right now}. I even asked about just participating in the hospital tour portion so he'd be familiar with the hospital and could maybe see the room beforehand...but nope, they won't do it.

Although I will add that I can't imagine DS sitting calmly through an hour-long class {or really anything longer than 20 min for that matter} unless it's fairly interactive.

I understand that sometimes places really need to stick to the rules (for various reasons), but that really sucks. Do you know the content of the course? Maybe it's geared towards older kids in such a way that much of it wouldn't be relatable for her? It's really too bad that they don't have something for younger kids though.

Nope, it's not full. But apparently the instructor is adamant about not letting any kids under 3 in because of the age range.

Oh well.
