Tips for going to the Zoo for the first time

We are taking DD to the zoo this weekend as long as it doesnt rain. It will be her first time at 17 months. I am taking the stroller obviously, but what else? Can you take in outside food/drinks? Any tips? TIA!

  •    I have a pass and it is the best investment ever if you have small kids. I would research online and see if it is something you would be interested in.  You can bring outside food or drink. Have drinks with lids- some exhibits are on a trail, in the woods and you pop can will not be able to make the journey without spilling it.  don't forget sunblock- my friend was there a few weeks for a short visit, and her baby had a sunburn afterwardsSad. Don't forget to grab a map at the entrance.  I did have 1 bad experience in 3 years.  My camera was stollen out of my stroller.  Sorry so choppy to read- I am getting sleepySleep

  • Yes we bring the jogger for ease down some of the trails, but you could always skip those. We always have snacks, but sometimes get pizza for a treat while there. The children's zoo is scary the first time, well for us it was, the billy goats came charging at DD to get some food pellet's and she was horrified. Its better now that they don't let you feed them inside the pen.

I also second sunblock and water bottles.

  • My only tip is DON'T GO TOMORROW! I am taking a class on a field trip there and it's a nice collection of all of our worst-behaving students, haha. If you see a story on a the news about a teenager climbing into a tiger pit, it will probably be one of my students. Have fun!

Ah, DH is off work tomorrow and it's the last day of spring break so we will take our chances. Thanks for warning us about your hooligans :).

Don't say you weren't warned :). I will wave if I recognize your kids!

This made me laugh out loud, especially a "nice" collection of "worst-behaving" students.  Good luck tomorrow  :)

Does your DD like being in the stroller for a long time? My DS started to hate being trapped in the stroller and he constantly wanted me to carry him... it gets very hard to carry a toddler around for hours at the zoo. So, I usually bring my sling with me. If you have one, I strongly suggest bringing it in case LO wants to be carried.

Have fun! The zoo is my favorite place to go!
