BF while training for a Marathon

Does anyone have any tips on how to keep supply up? I haven't actually started training yet, I'm planning on starting in a couple of weeks. The marathon is in Oct so I won't start a lot of long distance until June and then that will only be 10-12 miles until Aug. when I'll up the mileage again to 16-20.

  • It really wasn't an issue. Heavy training didn't effect my supply.  I maxed at 16 mile long runs.  I eventually dropped down  to a half, but that's because the time commitment of training for a full with a newborn was too great for me.

    After DD1 was born I started running again and my supply tanked. I cut back on my miles, increased my fluids and slowly built my miles up again. Then it wasn't an issue unless I was dehydrated.

  • DS is 13 months now. Through last summer I would have supply issues after even a short run, but I think it was because I was sweating so much and not drinking enough.  I really hesitated to sign up for a marathon for that reason, but decided to give it a try since DS would be 11 months by the time the race rolled around.  I started the long runs in December  (he was 9 months) and just made sure to drink a ton.  The first pumping after would be a little less than normal, but other than that it did not make a significant differenc.

     

    I also followed a modified training schedule (one based on running 3 days a week, instead of every day) and actually had a huge PR.  I think that running less but making sure each run was ?quality? worked better with juggling a full time job and spending time with my family.
