What to pay babysitter?

Please don't feel like you have to answer this if you're not comfortable. I haven't babysat in a good 3-4 years and when I did, the family I babysat for paid $10 an hour. What is a good price per hour to pay a babysitter? I've asked around and some say they pay less than $10. We do have a bunch of the girls from the college that would probably do it for next to nothing cuz they love Emma, but I'd still like to have an idea of what a good amount is.

 Thank you!

  • $10 per hour sounds fair to me. We have not used a pay sitter yet. But that sounds good to me.

  • For a college aged sitter I paid $10 an hour for one kid.?
  • Man! I really should get back into babysitting again. 5.00 was more than average when I was babysitting...darn inflation! :) 10.00 sounds like plenty!!

  • Ditto Keren!  Wow!  When I was babysitting (granted like 10 years ago), $5/hr was incredibly generous.  $3.50/hr was pretty good.

  • $10 an hour seems plenty to me too. From the time I was 12-16 I used to babysit ALL the time and got $5 an hr max. I had this one family that would pay me like $5 for a night with 3 kids. Talk about cheap!

  • We pay $10/hour and round up the total depending on the cash we have.  Especially if it involves dinner, bath, bedtime, etc.
