Those who had/have UTIs, what did they prescribe?

I might have a UTI and the nurse prescribed Macrobid, which I've seen mixed reviews about. I just took my first one this morning and wondering if I should hold out until they absolutely diagnose me with a UTI.

I've had plenty of UTI's in my life, just not during this pregnancy (yet, I'm sure one will come soon). Howver, being an L&D nurse I see that Macrobid is prescribed all the time for UTI's during pregnancy. If I were you I'd take the med and get rid of the UTI. UTI's can cause pre-term labor if left untreated. Did they take a culture of your urine, or just dipstick it?

Not sure. I went into the lab on Tuesday and gave a urine sample. If I don't hear from docs by afternoon I'll call them.

I've suffered from UTIs all my life as well so I know what they feel like, which prompted me to call and ask plus kick my cranberry drinking into high gear.

What do you normally take for them? My last couple I was given Levaquin, which worked immediately, but it is pregnancy category C. Macrobid is pregnancy category B.

I used to take Bactrim. My mom always had them in the medicine cabinet so once I felt the onset of the infection, I'd take them. Not so easy now!
