I was thinking that would fall under SO because for the most part this country is so backwards when it comes to gay marriage that unfortunately most gay and lesbian couples cannot get married. I live in Florida and forget that this is not the case in all 50 states.

I agree. I will never understand the argument that allowing people of the same sex to marry and be protected under the same legal rights as everyone else is going to somehow take away from what marriage means to someone more than people who have the legal right to marry and divorce and do so multiple times. But that's ok because they are straight so they should be allowed to. And to imply that same sex couples marry to scam insurance companies and things of that nature is awful.
My SIL and her girlfriend are in a commited, loving relationship. They are more respectful of each other than most of the straight couples that I know, and are two of my favorite people. They talk about having kids, and yay for Illinois for at least recognizing civil unions (law goes into effect in July). SIL is currently looking for a new job, and she is only looking at places that have insurance that also covers domestic partnerships. It's crazy how so few do. I found out that my H's current (horrible, evil) company does not.
I know this doesn't sit well with some people, but this is one of the many reason's I think my H is so fantastic--His sister will be the one to carry the baby, and brought up the idea of her girlfriend's eggs and my H's sperm, so that she can also be biologically linked to their child. Some people have given my H major side eye for saying of course he would do that for his sister, but I think it's a beautiful, selfless gift, and it will also save them money in the long run.
Thanks for having my back, Lopes! I have to tell you, it takes a while to become comfortable using the term 'wife'. Even for me and I am legally married to a woman! It's such a new concept in our society.. it will catch on, but I get some strange looks when I use it. Before we got married, neither of us had ever been to a gay wedding - we had no idea what to expect. We thought maybe we should keep it small so as not to make our families uncomfortable. We ended up having a gigantic wedding (over 200 guests) and both wore traditional wedding dresses. After the ceremony I made K run up to a hotel room with me so I could see what we looked like, I had never seen 2 brides together before!

We had friends of the family do this. The father is listed as the father on the birth certificate so that if something happens to either parent both sides of the family will be biologically and legally connected to the child, and so when the child grows up and has questions about their father she will know him. Also the baby gets to look like both sides of the family which is a nice bonus. It so far seems to be working out perfectly.

That is so awesome your family and friends could be so supportive and then you were able to have the wedding you really wanted. If it were me I would have wanted us both to wear dresses too I love it!

I love this! My wife is the youngest of 9 (5 older brothers). We used
a sperm bank but it took $50,000 out of pocket to get this baby I am
carrying. It was to the point where we had to stop, financially (my
sister actually bought the vial that got me pregnant.. which is a
little weird but her brothers all offered to donate to me. The gesture was amazing. Unfortunately, the situation wasn't right for us because
we want biological siblings and my wife is going to start TTC in the
fall, so we opted to keep on with the sperm bank so the kids could have
the same donor. How absolutely wonderful for you and your husband to
be able to help them.

That being said, I have a husband, we're coming up on our 5 year anniversary in May!

Thank you! I love it too! We are very fortunate for our families
to support us. Even my 92 y.o. grandmother was excited for the
wedding! Like I said, we figured we would have something small but
word got out and the level of excitement everyone had was insane! And
it was all the way in Ptown (ha! gay.) So the fact that everyone had
to drive at least 2.5 hours to get to it and stay over! I watch the
video and get chills.. we are really lucky.
(I used to live in Davis Square but we just bought a house towards the South Shore, down 24.)

My CW's wife was pregnant and we treated CW to lunch and baby gifts for the new little guy. Little did we know that CW was actually pregnant while we were celebrating baby #1. I think the logistics have been hard at time for them (they are both working medical professionals), but those two kids are so damn cute! It worked out really well for them and I hope that you gals have the same experience.

This breaks my heart. One of my best friends is getting ready to propose to her girlfriend and said the same thing. She wasn't sure people would want to celebrate with them. I'm so happy that you did what was right for you and your wife and that your family supported you. I don't understand how people can turn their nose up at two people who are in a loving and committed relationship.
