Help me-bottles/feeding

I am going back to work next week and I don't know how much my I'd eats! DS has taken bottles like a champ so I am not afraid about him eating at all, but I don't do it regularly. I have no idea how much he eats at each feeding. I BF and when he does have a bottle it is with expressed milk. It is usually when I am out and DH needs to feed him. My question is how much/often does you baby eat? I need to let the dcp know! Ps- sorry about spacing the iPad doesn't like paragraphs. Also I just reread this post and it doesn't make the most sense...I am too lazy to retype, sorry. Injust want to know how much milknto send!

  • Lol, my iphone does the same thing- every time I try to put a space in, I hit the n key so words turnnintonthis.  Anyway, when I go back to work we are starting with a nanny, so she will have access to my freezer stash, but I plan on using one bottle that I pump in the morning (or two, if I get that much out) of 4-5 oz each and then thawing as much as I think he will need based on 4-5oz bottles and how many times he nursed on average during those hours the previous few days.  I will likely add one-two extra bottles on top of that of thawed milk just in case for the first week.  They say that babies won't eat a ton more than 25 oz per day, and my DS nurses mostly during the day, so I will probably have at least 5-6 bottles of 4-5 oz each either prepared or thawed for the first week to start off and see how it goes.  If I thaw too much or pump too much at work, I can always have DH feed DS a bottle at night for one session while I pump and then freeze the newly pumped BM.  If it isn't enough, again, she will be at our house so she has access to my freezer.

  • He eats between 2-3 oz from the bottle and we make sure it takes him at least 20 minutes to eat that since that's how long he takes to nurse. I plan on sending him with two bottles with fresh milk and then a couple bags of my stash. If he eats more, my dcp (mil) lives about 10 minutes from my work and she can bring him to either get more bottles or have me nurse him

  • I realize this post is from yesterday so sorry if the response doesn't apply any longer.

You could always send more bottles than you think you'll need.  I might put less in each bottle and they can give more if they need to without wasting so much.  My LO eats about 3 1/2 oz every 3 hours and while she's usually not there long enough we send 4 bottles.  This way if she's hungry earlier than 3 hours she has another bottle to eat or if she doesn't eat it all at one feeding and wants another bottle during the day she has bottles.

Our day care gives us a form every day that says when she ate and how much she ate at that feeding.  If your day care does the same I would think it would only take a couple of days to get the right amount.

  • here is how we do it, i work 7-3:30 with a 30 min commute.

On Monday I send 6 6oz bags to my moms house (day care provider).

I feed Ember at 6am and she nurses till I leave at 6:30

She eats on demand at my moms house typically 8-10oz a day

    I pump 3x a day at work for a total of 10-12oz.

I feed DD the second I walk in the door at moms house before going home(about 4:00).

If by Friday mom needs more milk I typically just send her one of Thursdays fresh bottles.
