We got a Britax carseat that is just wonderful, but it doesn't go into a stroller or have a handle- it's too large to take baby out of the car in it. Sooooo..... we were wondering, how do we put baby in a stroller when he/she is brand new?
What kind of stroller can a little baby go into without being in a carseat? I haven't seen many that look like they would work. ![]()
Thanks for the info!
Re: Is there a newborn stroller that DOESN'T use carseat?
I have a bugaboo cameleon, it has a bassinet for when baby is little (same idea as a bassinet to sleep in, it's good to use till they can roll over pretty much) and it has a seat for when they get bigger.
I absolutly love ours, we used the bassinet for at least 4 months or so (it's hard to remember for sure). When traveling to visit family we used it as baby's bed whether we were staying with family or at a hotel. And if you want you have the option of buying a car seat adaptor and using an infant car seat on it. - We didn't last time, but this time we did. It adapts with the Maxi Cosi, Graco Snugride and Peg Perago infant car seats.
A little bit cheaper option is the bugaboo frog... Same stroller with just a few less options.
check out bugaboo.com
I have a Maclaren Techno XL and it's newborn compatible (i.e. fully reclines). It also has an adapter bar to attach a carseat. It was a godsend for us because DS hated his carseat so we put him in just the stroller almost from day 1 and he was much happier.
This is a good option if you don't want/need the bassinet feature. Plus, it's cheaper than the Bugaboo and Uppababy strollers.
Strollers with the bassinette features (Uppa Baby Vista or the Bugaboo) get great reviews. We bought the Uppa Baby and it is not compatible with the Britax car seat which may or may not be important to you (chicco, peg, graco car seats are all comptible for the additional purchase of an adaptor but not britax).
One advantage to a basinette over a car seat, is that car seats are not suppose to be used for long periods of time. So if you are out shopping or on a long walk, it is better to keep the baby in a basinette than strapped into a car seat.
FWIW, your Britax seat will most likely NOT work for your newborn even though it says 5lbs+, so you might want to look into an infant seat.
If you are interested I can show you a picture of what I mean.

See the post above about convertible seat for infant. I and another nestie posted pics.
Not only will it not fit properly but an infant seat is a million times safer. We purchased a Britax Chaperone for our son and now he is in the Britax Advocate CS. He was a very large baby at 9 lb 6 oz and there is NO way the convertible seat would have worked for him. We did not move him to the Advocate until 5 months and he has consistently been off the growth charts for height (and his weight is proportionate).
Yea we have the Boulevard CS in DH's car and we only use it for very short trips to visit my mom who lives a few blocks away when it's too cold and windy. Once LO fell asleep in it and I was sitting in the back with her and her head kept plopping forward, not sideways, even though she was harnessed!!! She was around 3 mos when this happened.
OP you can get a stroller with a bassinet, we have the Orbit. If your LO is due anytime during the Spring and Summer, you will get A LOT of use out of the bassinet feature.
