stressful moment turns good, not baby related

I gathered up my students this morning and went into the class to begin attendance.  I went on the computer to grab my lesson plans and my flash drive was not in my computer like it always is.  IT was gone!  (I know, stupid for leaving it there but if not I would have lost it!)  I mean, 3 years worth of lesson plans, grades, millions of tests I created, team items, etc.  I wanted to cry.  I freaked.  There is an after school program held in my room, we questioned those kids.  I really thought it was gone for good. I felt like I was wondering about every kid that walked through my door.  I was so upset!  I felt robbed, so much work gone!  Well around 11:30 the counselor called me and told me one of the 8th grade boys from the after school program came to her and said he did a bad thing, and he had it!  No questions asked, I am so glad that I got it back and all the data was still on it.  Just had to share that. So glad that he made the right decision!   Smile

  • Awww... that touches my heart. Kids can make bad decisions in the moment and then realize how bad it was and actually turn back and make a better choice. That's really SO mature. I don't know many adults who would fess up to making a bad choice like that. I'm really glad you got your drive back and I'm glad that you told this story. It's good to know that there are kids out there who listen to their conscience.

LOL!!  Ya, I work in a very poor community and the kids don't have much!  He said he didn't have one and needed one, I'm guessing for is ELA class or something.  Regardless, it is a foolish thing to take but I have seen even more foolish things stolen!  Right after 9-11 someone stole the flagpole from our playground!  Ya, that was a shocker when the kids went out to hang the flag for the morning pledge!

  • Reading your post made my stomach hurt!   I can't imagine loosing my drive. I have made 3 different copies when I left my job, just in case I go back.  Having to recreate everything would almost be like starting teaching all over again.

SO glad you've got it back- and yay for honesty!
