FFs - What would you switch to next?

LO started on Enfamil Newborn when I first introduced formula to his bottle of pumped milk.  He did well on it initially but as I increased the formula amount and decreased the breast milk amount we noticed he was spitting up with every feeding and was passing gas throughout the day.  Called the pedi and the nurse suggested trying Enfamil Gentlease and gave us two sample cans to try out.

We've been on Gentlease for 1 full week and although the spitting up has almost completely stopped, he is still passing gas all the time.  Bringing his knees up to his belly to help push out those little farts.  He is not very fussy but I'm sure that the amount of gas he has doesn't feel good for him.

Do you ladies have any suggestions as to what formula to try next?  My breast milk supply will be completely gone by Friday, =(, so whatever we try next will most likely be his first bottle of strictly formula.

  • If he isn't fussy with the formula I would give it a little longer.  It might just be the switch that's giving him the gas.  You could also get Mylicon (gas drops) to put in his bottles to help relieve some of the gas.

  • I second the Mylicon if you aren't already using it! DS is on Similac Sensitive and does pretty well, but he still gets gassy a couple times each day.

  • Personally, I wouldn't switch formula again.  I'd give him mylicon drops before every bottle, and/or give him some gripe water.  I'd try the mylicon first.

  • I agree with everyone. My DS is on similac sensitive and he still has gassy moments. I use the mylicon drops. Not worth switching again since he seems to be doing fine. The pedi said it can take a couple weeks for there little tummies to adjust. I'd give it a little more time.

  • Thanks girls... I called the pedi today and she said to stick with the Gentlease and to give Mylicon before each bottle.

    I appreciate your help!

  • Unless he is showing actual discomfort such as crying because of his gas then I would just leave it. Babies can be very gassy because of their immature digestive system but as long as it isn't a problem for him then I would just try Mylicon.

ETA: I didn't read all the responses before I replied. Mylicon works great for my DS, if it doesn't work for your LO I would try gripe water as a next step too.
