Anyone know of any open fields downtown? Besides Zilker, I mean. I need to go downtown and look around, but don't want to be driving around for hours looking for the right place w/ gas prices the way they are...so if anyone who is familiar with the downtown area can point me in a few good directions, I'd really apprecaite it!
Re: NBR: Open Fields downtown?
There's Waterloo Park (which may or may not have patchy grass, but has a great deck to lounge on), or Wooldridge Square by the Courthouse (which is really well maintained and nice, but.. sometimes bums hang around there).
Pease Park has some parking in random spots - like off of 24th street, aside from their obvious parking places off of Lamar.
Have you checked out the new part of the pedestrian bridge that was extended over Cesar Chavez? I think there is parking by the AMLI/Luke's Locker place for that, though I haven't been back to Austin since it opened and couldn't tell you for sure.
Oh, and not sure if you considered these to be part of Zilker or not - but there is also Town Lake Park that is behind the Zach theatre, and the Disch field which is where the dog park and trailhead is. Parking for those places is scattered all along Riverside, and pretty easy as long as its not a Saturday morning.
*sigh* I'm starting to love my area in NC, but I still very much miss my old hood!
You rock. YGM!
