Brynn Eloise's birth story--super quick labor but long story

So I have to say that I love being able to post on here now and then.  I mostly read the posts b/c my DH hogs the computer and I have to read the posts from my phone.  I haven't figured out how to post from my phone though so I can only read them but I hope you won't mind if I share my birth story of my daughter.

Brynn was born on March 16th at 7:38 am.  Because I have quick labors the doctor had told me to come to the hospital when my contractions were 8-10 minutes apart for an hour.  At 5 am I noticed that I was having contractions and I started timing them with my handy contraction app on my phone. At 5:45am they jumped to 6 minutes apart and I decided to get in the shower I woke my husband up to let him know what was going on and I hopped in the shower.  by the time I was out of the shower the contractions were coming more frequently and were about 4 minutes apart.  I had to wake my DH up again b/c I don't think he realized what was going on.  At 6am I called my parents and the doctors and was making sure everything was ready.  My sister came to watch my DD at 6:15 while my husband was trying to get a sub lined up for his classes that day.  We left around 6:30.  Thank God we live so close to the hospital bc i was not enjoying the five minute ride with my contractions coming quicker and quicker.  I think I was up to 2 minutes apart.

We finally get there and we make it to the registration desk after stopping a few times for contractions.  The crazy lady behind the desk couldn't find my paperwork that I had mailed in a few weeks prior.  So as slow as molasses she is trying to register me.  I'm leaning over the counter while my husband is pushing on my back for counter pressure during the frequent contractions while she is asking me the stupid questions.  While we were finishing up my parents arrived.  Thank god.  My mom is very calming for me and I was lucky I got to see her.  She took over putting pressure on my back so my DH could help finishing registering me.

A few minutes later they called me back to triage.  Everything is all quiet and calm.  I was guessing I would be at 7 cm with my contractions and everything.  I was getting nervous too b/c I was GBS+ and I knew I needed to get the antibiotics.  I told my H that if they didn't check me after the next contraction he needed to get them in here to check me.  Fortunately they came in and checked.  The nurse calmly told us I was 9 cm with a bulging bag of water.  Then she threw back the curtain yelled 9 cm and it felt like that little space was filled with people stat.  They got an iv in me and monitors on me in the space of maybe a minute.  They said I didn't have time for the meds.  I was not exactly crazy excited about that.   They wheeled me into the delivery room and called the doctor twice.  After he arrived they broke my water.  And Brynn Eloise was born ten minutes later at 7:38 am.  She only made me do two rounds of pushing--which during the first round I announced that I was going to do this and tried to put my legs down...I wasn't able to get away with that.

She made it easy on my though and was born quickly.  I had a second degree tear though and I think the stitching hurt just as bad as the birth.  The doc and the resident are down there discussing how best to stitch me up.  I remember them saying "well how are we going to get back up there to connect the two." Then I decided to not pay anymore attention to them.  eek.

I have to go, my daughter is crying, but thanks for reading if you got through it all.  Congrats to everyone and their babies and good luck to the babies who are going to arrive soon:)

  • Wow, what an intense story! Congratulations on the arrival of your little girl!

Just curious... how long was your labor with your first child?

  • With my first I was in labor for a little over three hours. But I walk around dilated to 3.5 for about a week so I only have to go from like a four to ten which is better then starting out at one. My mom had quick labors too so luckily I inherited that from her.
