I had an interview for a new job yesterday and it went very well. I know that it is traditional to send a thank you to the person(s) you interviewed with. Is it acceptable to send a plain letter or should it be a simple thank you card? What all should I include? I don't want to sound overly excited, but I am very hopeful. Can I just sign it "Sincerely"?
Re: Thank you after a job interview?
I have always sent a thank you card, by mail, immediately after the interview. You should thank the person for taking the time to meet with you, explain the job, etc. You should also express your enthusiasm once more for the position and end with something like, "I look forward to speaking with you again soon." I think sincerely or thank you are fine closings. Good luck! What's the job?
Thanks! It's a Nurse Coordinator position... I seriously feel like it was made for me, so I'm really excited!
Definitely, definitely, definitely send one. You have no idea how rare that is and how well it can go over. Ditto PP...thank them for meeting with you and reiterate your interest as well as how your skills will be a benefit to their organization. "Sincerely" is a very appropriate closing.
GL!
I used to be a job search coach/career counselor at a university, and my advice to job seekers was it depends on the report you built with the interviewer. If you felt a connection with them, a thank you card would be appropriate. But, if it was a very professional interview a formal letter is probably better. I also read that women prefer thank you cards and men prefer letters, but again I think it still depends on how you connected with the interviewer.
Good luck!
Ok, next question:
It is in the same hospital where I already work. Should I take the time to send it in the mail? Do inter-office mail? Or just give it to the doctor I interviewed with? (I already work with him fairly closely, and he's really laid back... so I don't think that part would be weird...)
