Dreaming of the perfect cinnamon roll

I have a craving for the perfect cinnamon roll/sticky bun. And that's the key word: perfect. Cinnabon, local bakeries, and run-of-the-mill cafes are not going to cut it for me. And, my baking skills are no match for this craving either. Here's the dream: the cinnamon roll needs to be the size of porn star boobs. Each layer has to be slathered in sticky bun caramel glaze with the epicenter of the roll just oozing cinnaminamy awesomeness. Topped with candied and lightly salted pecans, the roll then needs to be lathered in gooey vanilla frosting. But REAL vanilla, mind you--a rich deep flavor that engrosses the whole pastry goodness. I want a cinnamon roll so ridiculous I need a lobster bib to eat it and a shower afterward.

So, I have to ask: does such a thing exist? Who's grandma's kitchen do I have to infiltrate to get ahold of one of these? Does anyone else have ridiculous (and possibly detailed) cravings? I feel like I have one every week (last week I was on the search for the perfect french fry, and before that, it was the ultimate waffle). Am I the only weirdo who not only has to fulfill a craving, but it has to fulfill it the right way?

Re: Dreaming of the perfect cinnamon roll

  • Well now that you've described such a delicious cinnamon roll, I doubt you are the only one who needs to fulfill this craving.  I'm mentally searching for any place around here that I could go to get something like that.

  • That's a funny and specific craving!

I studied abroad in Denmark and the cinnamon rolls there spoiled me.  I don't even attempt to eat them here because I know they won't compare.  The night before one of my friends went back home, we stayed out clubbing all night long and we were first in line at the bakery when it opened.  Best. Cinnamon Roll. Ever.

  • This recipe is the closest I've found to Cinnabon.  If you have a breadmaker, its SOOOO easy to make too.  I'm sure you could modify it if you don't have a breadmaker though.  Every time I make them, I have people asking me for the recipe:

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
    • 2 eggs, room temperature
    • 1/3 cup margarine, melted
    • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
    • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
    • 2 1/2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
    • 1/3 cup butter, melted
    • 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1/8 teaspoon salt

    Directions

    1. Place ingredients in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start.
    2. After the dough has doubled in size turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, cover and let rest for 10 minutes. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
    3. Roll dough into a 16x21 inch rectangle. Spread dough with 1/3 cup butter and sprinkle evenly with sugar/cinnamon mixture. Roll up dough and cut into 12 rolls. Place rolls in a lightly greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
    4. Bake rolls in preheated oven until golden brown, about 15 minutes. While rolls are baking, beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread frosting on warm rolls before serving.

  • This post has so much win in it . . . porn star boob cinnamon rolls . . . epicenter . . . . cinnaminamy . . . . lobbster bib and a shower . . . lol

Girl you need to get into the trashy romance novel writing business. I feel like you've got a bestseller ready to be unleashed.

Honestly, with a craving that specific, I feel like you gotta get your hands dirty and make it yourself. I completely understand with the specificity part. I have been looking for a very specific pretzel with cheese for about 2 weeks now. No one has it. I basically need to buy tickets to a baseball game or something just for the pretzel.

  • That sounds AMAZING! I have been wanting a pretzel like the PP but I'm not a cheesy person so a basic warm pretzel from the mall would have won me over. I have had a kick for enchiladas this whole pregnancy. I love the though of the mild sauce with oozing cheese, sour cream, tiny chopped onions, it just sounds soo good all the time.

  • These are freaking amazing.  They make the softest rolls EVER!  I've made them into orange rolls, too, and they were even more amazing (I might be biased, since I love orange rolls more than cinnamon).
