Good girl or sucker?!

The boss made a mistake and gave me a check for having worked 55 hrs instead of 25, which is what I worked this pay cycle. As much as I would love the extra $700, I had to give the check back and point out the error. In my mind, I did the right thing. What would you have done? Was I a good girl or a sucker?! Be honest :)

Re: Good girl or sucker?!

  • When I left my first "real" job my employer paid me an extra 2-week paycheck.  I was sooo tempted, but I told them.  It still took them nearly a year to take the $$ back!  I am pretty sure they never would have noticed, but oh well; I guess I did the right thing.

  • Good girl! Of course, I say that being the kind of person who found $20 in an Ikea parking lot and wanted to ask around for who lost it.

  • You did the right thing.  Eventually payroll would have caught the error and they would have taken it out of a next paycheck.

Though when I found a $100 bill in the mall parking lot when I was in high school (working at the mall) I kept it.  I mean it was just lying on the ground and nobody was around. I got some cute outifts!

  • Good girl.  Especially because it was at work, where the mistake would likely have been caught later.  And you definitely want your boss to know that you are honest!

  • I would have told them because they would have found it in an audit eventually and then it would look bad on me for not saying anything.

  • In this day and age/economy, if you'd kept the money and not said anything, there's a chance an audit would have found the error and you could lose your job for being dishonest.  Not worth the $700.
