Bath update

As we wait to hear back from Jen I will share my update about Matt's bath woes.

Last night was my turn to bathe Matt and he got in the big tub (I took his tub out) clothed and was fine. Then we undressed him and he would not get in the empty tub.  I turned the bubble machine on and got into the tub myself.  Then I pulled Matt onto my lap.  After a few baby steps (no pun intended) like that I had Matt naked in the big tub sitting down but with no water.

He did try to turn on the water but when I went to help him he crawled back on my lap. So we made some progress yesterday but we still have more to go. We will see how DH does. His attitude is we should get Matt into the water and let him cry while we clean him as fast as possible.  Sooooo not my style.

Re: Bath update

  • I'm glad there was progress... our next bath is tonight and I'll update too.

Though we're following your DH's POV and will let him cry while we clean him as fast as possible. I'm mean that way.  But I will look into a bubble machine for distraction (he loves bubbles).

I think I would feel better if Matt just cried but he asks us to take him out. He will say (while crying) "All done," "No, no, no" and then just a heartbreaking "Please."

  • Have you thought about taking him to a swimming pool?   Maybe call your local Y and see if they'll just let you two walk in to "see" other kids playing in the water?  Might peak his interest.

And you / your pedi was worried about Matty's speech?  Now I'M worried.  Aaron barely says anything anymore (and he's about, what 1 month younger than Matty?).  Oy.

That's what we did for the month or so that Mikey was terrified of bathtime.

I have sort of. I don't fit in the tub insert with him but I got into the big tub and put my feet in his tub.

  • Why don't you forget about the tub insert? Adrian has been in the regular adult tub since he outgrew his Euro baby tub. He still loves his baths but the few times whe he's been cranky, one of us gets in the tub with him and he's fine. We would also just let him cry and wash as fast as possible, we're old farts with little patience, lol.
