Pumpers- worth it?

I pump every morning with a manual pump, just enough for a bottle (or less) and have an okay freezer stash already. My friend is away for 2 weeks and lent me her Ameda Purely Yours electric pump so that I can try to build up my stash even though it's not a huge necessity (I am home until September). The only store around here that sells the replacement tubing and accessories required is charging $70. I didn't realize it would be that pricey. So, here are my options:

1. Pay $70, get the parts tomorrow.

2. Buy them online (the cheapest price I found was $60 with shipping) and hope they get here soon (I'm in Canada and many places won't ship to me here).

3. Not bother and just keep using the manual.

WWYD? Is an electric worth it?

Re: Pumpers- worth it?

  • What about your local hospital?  I bought a used medela pump in style electric and paid to replace all of the parts. It really wasn't that expensive.  When I got to the hospital, they gave me all of the parts as well, so I felt like an idiot that I bought all  of the replacement parts.  I can not even imagine manually pumping, but if it's not a big deal to you, then I would skip it and not worry about it.  I seriously haven't pumped in two months.  DH stopped helping with feedings, so I stopped pumping.

  • Hmmm $70 to invest for just 2 weeks since she's only letting you borrow it while she's gone.....?

I'd either see if I could get a used closed system pump on craigslist and replace what you want on that bc it'll be yours or keep the manual.

Why is she letting you use it for two weeks?  Doesn't she still need it while she is away? If she doesn't need it anymore, why can't you use it when she gets back? She just isn't going to pump while she's away, since her LO will be with her, I guess.

It's not worth $70 in my opinion. You can get a single electric pump for not much more than that with the new parts included. You're probably right!

You might be more limited in CA, but I bought three extra sets of replacement parts from Amazon.  I bought them for work so I didn't have to wash parts in a common sink and it was less than $50 for everything including new tubing.  I have the Medela PISA.  Does Amazon ship to canada? they do, but the shipping on some items is insane (3x the cost of the item, in this case).
