Toddler "Mine, Mine" phase?

Lately, our 16 month old has been saying everything is hers all the time and getting very upset if we say no its not and take it away. We try to giver her something that is hers in return, but she just throws it and screams. Is this just a phase? We recently moved and she has been home with me for a month, rather than going to daycare like she used to. She will be starting daycare again in June and I am hoping that getting back to interacting with other kids will help her remember that she is not the only little girl in the world and that she has to share. Thoughts?

Re: Toddler "Mine, Mine" phase?

  • From what I can tell, all toddlers are like this.  They really need to ascribe ownership.  DD does default to mine, but she knows which things are mommy's, daddy's and baby's now as well.  It's a long road to hoe and you will be reasoning till the cows come home.  Now at age 2 it seems to be getting better.  Wait till you introduce share - it's either a 4 letter word to DD or only works in one direction.
