I can't believe I'm still pregnant. For reals. Neither can my Dr. for that matter. I know I'm not even to my due date yet, but yowza. Anyhow, my next Dr. appt is Friday and the plan is if he's still in there, we'll induce this weekend. (The reason for inducing at week 39 also has to do with some complications there were during my last delivery, so it's not like she is taking him early just to take him early).
I can't decide how much research I want to do on inductions, since I know there are risks and you have a higher chance to end up with a c-section. But I figured I'd ask you wonderful ladies what your experiences were, if you were induced.
I had some Pitocin last time, but it was after my water had already broken on it's own but my contractions had delayed.
Getting nervous!
Re: Tell me about your induction...
I'll give you the quick version here, and if you care to read the full thing my birth story is linked below.
Started at 1 cm, 0% effaced (where I'd been for 3+ weeks).
1:30 am - Cytotec (Misoprostal) administered (and by that, I mean shoved up by my cervix)
3:00 am - Contracting every 2.5-3 minutes. Not super painful, but uncomfortable.
5:30 am - Checked by doc... 3 cm, 80% effaced
9:30 am - Checked again, not much progress. Started on a light Pitocin drip
12:30 pm - Epidural
1:00 pm - Checked again... fully dilated and effaced. Started pushing.
3:33 pm - Lila was born.

I was induced at 39w. I think that it is a completely personal decision and if you feel you are willing to give it a go and your Dr feels you are ready then do what is right for your family. Don't worry about explaining "why" to anyone, it is YOUR decision!
I think people get way too much flack for doing something that is right for their own bodies/families and is in the grand scheme of things pretty dang safe.
My experience was at 5:00pm the night before the induction they inserted a catheter and a balloon to try to dilate a bit. At the time I was not effaced nor dialated at all. I contracted throughout the night but it stopped in the morning. I checked in to the hosp at 6am and the pitocin was started at 7:30. I contracted all day stalling at about a 4 for a few (4-5 I think) hours. At 10:00p I got the epidural and was at a 10 within an hour. 4 pushes later Cam was born at 11:32.
If you go into it with no grand expectations of what your birth experience "should" be I feel you have a better outcome. I think when you have an expected plan you are possibly setting yourself up for disappointment. You can give the meds a try and you dont progress, so be it. You can wait it out and see if you go into labor naturally or if you have to have a c/s to get the baby out, again oh well! It wouldnt always be ideal but in the end you have your outside baby, no matter what route he/she gets here.
Good luck!
I was induced at 39 weeks with both my kids.
Livi's induction was just over 12 hours. When I got to the hospital I was 1 cm dilated. They started pitocin and broke my water. Got an epidural when I was 5 cms. Pushed for 2 hours.
Ian I was 3 cms when I got to the hospital. Doctor broke my water at 1:45 pm had an epidural by 3 pm he was out at 6:41pm with maybe 15 mins of pushing.
Both my inductions were great experiences. If I were to have a third I'd ask my OB to induce me again

I was induced at 38 weeks due to serious blood pressure ups and downs. 4pm they used a catheter and inserted a balloon. I had small contractions all night. Went in to the hospital 6am, began Pitocin at 7am. Contractions started and consistently got stronger. I didn't have an epidural but went with two doses of pain killer. By 3pm I started pushing and at 455p Camryn was born. They did need to use the vacuum to get her out as she couldn't seem to get over my pelvic bone.
As the other ladies said, it is your decision and there is no reason to justify yourself to anyone. Good luck!
I was induced at 34w5d due to pre-e and an IUGR baby. I had a really good experience as far as inductions go. Here's the run down -
3AM - Pitocin is started. I'm not in labor on my own at all at this point.
7AM - Dr. breaks baby A's water.
Slowly progress throughout the day. I tried to keep moving my bouncing on the ball, rocking in a rocking chair, squatting to help progress etc.
3PM - 5CM dilated
4PM - Get epidural
5PM - 10CM dilated. Do a few practice pushes and call doctor to come to hospital.
5:20PM - Wheeled to operating room. (where all twins are delivered)
5:30PM - Baby A born
5:31PM - Baby B born
