Do you ever look at baby registries and think everything on it is completely crappy quality or totally unnecessary? My cousin's shower is coming up and I'm looking at her registry right now and she just has a ton of junk on it. I get that she doesn't really know what to expect as a first time mom, but when I was registering, I asked other moms what they liked and read reviews. Everything she has on hers is rated very poorly and I just hate the idea of a) spending my money on junk and not really having any choices and b) that she is so ill prepared anyway and not really going to get anywhere with this registry. She has like 10 pairs of newborn shoes on one of them. HELLO! Newborn babies don't even need shoes, especially when they don't even have the essentials. Should I be one of those annoying people who dares to buy stuff that is not off the registry?
Re: Baby registries
I would totally buy something not on the registry. I really hope nobody buys her 10 pairs of newborn shoes and they get something she'll actually use.
I didn't get much from my registry at my showers to begin with, I just bought it all after with the discount. I still have frilly newborn dresses that DD never wore that people gave me.
Definitely buy her something essential that you know is good quality. Why waste your money?
I think buying items that aren't registered for is ok - the only time it bugs me is when, like at my shower, I got 10 hooded towels. I had to return most of them and get things I could use. I got some awesome stuff that I didn't register for, like our exersaucer.
Is there nothing on the registry worth buying?
By "rated very poorly" do you mean like safety ratings? or quality? or what?
Because even if it's quality, babies aren't in / using items for very long, so if it only lasts a couple of months, well, he's probably outgrown it by then anyway. And if it's what mom wants, then... it's what the mom wants.
I'd stick to the registry if you can find something useful on there.
Try to remember what it was like when you were expecting and you had picked all of these things that you thought were perfect for your LO, and how exciting that time was.
If nothing else, maybe buy her one thing off of her registry, even if something small, and then get her something else, or a gift card.
I mean the user ratings.
And I just mean that it seems she registered for all of the "fun stuff" like the 10 pairs of shoes... but doesn't any baby gear on there?? Heck, she doesn't even have a thermometer on there. I know she doesn't have much, which is why I can't figure out why she didn't register for any of the baby gear/essentials. I think I'll get her bath/healthcare items.
