International travel

DH and I really want to visit France... I have only been there for a day, so I would love to go back and spend a few days there,  DH was there for 2 semesters, and wants to go back so he doesn't loose his french speaking skills... I'm thinking we would only go for a week. When would you consider taking your LO on an international trip?

Re: International travel

  • My DH and I are moving back to Shanghai (we came back to the US to give birth) in a few weeks.  Our LO will be about 7 weeks old at that time.  Our pedi gave us the ok but I'm still a little nervous about the 14 hour flight.

  • My neice went from Japan to China with my SIL when she was 11 weeks old and stayed for almost 2 months.  My SIL will now be taking her and her new younger brother over for another month (neice is now 30 months and nephew is 13 weeks).

Though it is usually easier to fly with a younger child, I'm not sure I'd personally go on an international vacation with a few month old baby.  To visit family or because of other reasons such as work, housing, etc then yes but probably not for a vacation.

  • DH's extended family lives in Europe, I've debated taking 12-14month old LO there. (this would be a year from now).

His older brother traveled here w/ an 16 month old.  She did really well on the plane. (lots of sleeping)

Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)
