Opinions on the Maxi Dress

So I have a few different options for my shower dress, and I'd love your thoughts on one that I bought yesterday. I got this dress and it fits really nicely. I like that I'll be able to sit and not worry about the length of the dress, too. However, do you think that maxi dresses are slimming or do you think they make you look like a house?

  • I like it. I almost wore a maxi dress to mine.

  • Maxi dresses are adorable on pregnant women! I didn't wear one because I was pregnant all winter, but if I could have, I would have!
  • that's really cute. I would probably look like a house b/c I am shot with big boobs. but if you are tall it'd work!
  • I wore a maxi dress to my shower. Everyone kept saying I gained all the weight in my belly and still looked really small. I guess it camoflauged my butt really well!!! So I say it will be slimming : )

  • i think having a pattern on the maxi dress helps you to not look like you're wearing a nightgown, and helps you not look like a house...

either way underneath, you still feel like a house... at least it's comfy... lol

  • If you are already thin they are slimming. If you are like me and got a little plump in the arms/hips, it may make you look like a house. ( I have gained the recommended 30 pounds this pregnancy, and I feel like some of it went to places it didn't need to go to!) :)

  • I think it can be slimming! I like wearing mine with a little cropped short-sleeve cardigan I have, which hits the smaller portion of my rib-cage. I like how it divides up my body in a flattering way, so I feel less like a mass of fabric. Just food for thought :)

  • I think it all depends on your body type. Short, curvy me puts one on and looks like a fat munchkin...but my taller, rail-thin bff puts one on and looks like a supermodel. But I agree with pp's that they're SUPER comfy!

  • IMO, it really depends on the person.  I think that they make some people look huge, but others look great in them.  They are crazy comfortable though!

  • I'm on the shorter side, so regardless of whether I'm pregnant or not they make me look like I got attacked by a bed sheet and the bed sheet won.

That being said, that particular dress looks less tent-like than what I usually think of when I hear maxi dress.

  • I don't really like that dress, but I do love a lot of maxi dresses.  I'm small everywhere but my belly, and I'm medium-height (5'7"), so I don't think I look like a house when I wear them.  Haha.  I do think that there are better dress styles for most shorter, curvier women.
