wagon vs stroller?

I just saw a post recommending a wagon as a gift...  When exactly would you use a wagon?  Isn't it easeir to just put LO in a stroller?  I feel like a walk around the neighborhood would be a pain pulling a wagon.  The only time I think it would be helpful is at a pumpkin patch or something like that where you are hauling kid and pumpkins together.  Sorry this is a dumb question, but I just don't know when a wagon would be useful....

Re: wagon vs stroller?

  • Wagons are great fun to play with when you're a kid. I have fond memories of flying down a hill in my radio flyer, loading it up with all kinds of stuff, racing the neighbors, etc.

  • I've thought about a wagon once DD can sit up.  We walk to the park several times a week and right now I take my double stroller but I could see a wagon being useful in that way.  I could also see it being useful if either kid hated the stroller (though that isn't the case for me).  So, I guess my point is - having a wagon makes more sense in my mind once you have multiple kids.

  • I've been searching craigslist for a nice one.  They are definately more fun for the kids, especially if you're going somewhere that they will be getting in and out often.

  • I love our wagon.  Its great to pull DD around the neighborhood in (she loves it).  Its awesome at the zoo because if you're packing a picnic you can stick your cooler in there.

  • DS got a wagon for his 1st bday and we just put it together and he LOVED it this weekend when we took him around the block.

He also got to see around him- instead of just in front of him and I think he really liked it...

  • I think older kids need a change from the stroller.  They can see all around them, the feel is more adventurous.  I would get bored with the same stroller ride everyday.

  • We pull DS around the neighborhood in a wagon. The only time we use the stroller for this is if I think he is getting sleepy and he will fall asleep. Then I choose the stroller. Wagons are great fun for kids. Jax has been using his since he was 6 months old, so for about a year now. Plus the older they get, it will be a lot more enjoyable to them to go for a walk riding in the wagon as opposed to the stroller.

You could also use it for when you go to pumpkin patches and the like.

  • DD got a radio flyer wagon for her first birthday and she loves it.  She hates riding in the stroller but asks us to go for wagon rides.  We take it for walks in the neighborhood, to the park, on picnics, etc.

  • We have both. I like the stroller for (obviously) shopping trips, quick run to here or there. But the wagon is great for places like the zoo, amusement parks, etc etc
  • I thought a wagon would be great, until my friend and I took our girls to the zoo in one a couple of weeks ago. It was really hard to pull the wagon up the hills and there was no shade. The stroller would have been a lot more practical.

  • We use it around the yard and for walks.  Ours has the big all terrain tires so it is great for going around our bumpy yard.  We normally use the stroller for walks (especially long ones), but use the wagon for a change of pace.

  • we love having both. the stroller is for 'real' walks (like when I want some exercise) and longer walks or more hilly walks. wagon is awesome for short walks, heading to a close by playground, etc. My kids definitely like riding in the wagon way mor ehtan the stroller- they're not all buckled in except hte little waist strap, you can have toys & water & wahtever in there, they can look all around, and I think they just feel more independent.
