DD has C DIFF? Anyone know anything about this?

So, the Dr's office called and said the stool sample results came back and DD has C DIFF.  They said it is a form of a yeast infection in her stool.  I am supposed to take her back to the Dr for more information tomorrow afternoon but was wondering if any of you know anything about C DIFF?

Thanks!

  • Well... she probably has diarrhea then right? It usually comes when you've been on antibiotics (like a reg. yeast infection).

With adults they usually give lactobacillus (which is basically yogurt in pill form), but I'm not sure if they can give that LO's or not.

Yikes!! Hope DD gets to feeling better! Keep us posted.

  • I'm a nurse and see this often. We usually give flagyl for it but that's on adults so not sure what your DD will get. Make sure to wash your hands well after changing her diapers.

  • Thanks ladies!  Yes, she has had diarrhea for 8 days and for the past 4 days it has had some blood in it.  Is the C DIFF something that once you get it, you are prone to getting a lot more often?  Is it easy to clear up?

    Thanks again!

  • last week duncan began having bloody diarrhea.  the initial stool cultures came back showing that he had c diff.  we started him on a flagyl on friday.  on monday, the doc's office called back and told me that further testing showed he actually had salmonella poisoning.  she said that alot of times infants will test positive for c diff even if they don't have it.  we are suspecting he got salmonella from chicken we had the night before...like maybe a drop of it didn't get cleaned up on counter or something.  he is feeling much better now.  but to answer the pp's question, yes...they did put him on a flagyl.
